The problem I have with a lot of these "named" managers with the exception of Jose (he,s won tons of stuff everywhere with everyone) is that they need a very very good assistant manager.

Even the best managers go stale, fall out with players, have a weak Plan B or none at all.
It,s something that I feel is not given the attention it should when bringing in the new manager.

be good if we could compare other teams sacking at/near end of season and when they appointed a new one? might give us an idea

1st example, rogers was appointed 1st june 2 weeks after dalglish being sacked

Can't help thinking that if Man U really didn't want Mourinho, regardless of them missing out on the top four, then he'd be aware the Man U job's not an option, so would already have been announced as manager elsewhere by now.

Looks far more likely that Man U are waiting until after the cup final to announce Mourinho is replacing Van Gaal. Hope I'm wrong.

I've been trying to remember how long/short it was. And I can't!

I remember it felt like ages but not sure it was.
