Literally anyone we appoint is going to be a gamble though. Unless you happen to have a list of dead-certs handy?

I mean I suppose reappointing Allardyce is as close as there is. He’d be pretty much certain to steer us to safety, but I don’t think he’d be a road anyone would be keen to go back down?

Benitez? Maybe, but even him, we all know how much he loves the shower over the park, would he be TRULY motivated? And is he still at the level he was? Plus it would involve trading in what small amount of self respect we have left

There are no certainties that are both attainable and someone we’d want. Would Arteta be my first choice? No. But none of my “first choice” list would touch the job with a barge pole right now.

Mate I 100% agree, there is no dead certs. I wouldn't trust Mourinho to come in and sort this mess out.

Genuinely don't know which way the club should go, but my list of managers I don't want grows every time I look at the odds list.

Lads and ladies, everyone is a risk, what we have to decide is who we are more comfortable taking a risk with....

I am of the thinking there are a good number of managers we could attract in the summer that we just couldn’t get now, which basically means they need to be out of a job now. That leads me to think we should only look at a short-term appointment until the summer with whomever takes on the job has assurances they will be short listed based on results. That being the case it really limits the options. I cannot think of anybody I would go for that hasn’t managed in the EPL, they don’t have the summer to get up to speed. I couldn’t stomach Sam and to be fair to him the way he was treated don’t think he would come back. If that is my position then if google search has been kind to me the top 5 candidates and I include Arteta in these although technically employed are: Arteta, Moyes, Mauricio Pochettino, Rafael (Chinese league about to finished with rumours of a release clause) and well to be fair need to include Unsworth too.

Based on the above I would go for Moyes until the summer and the summer only with a promise to short list him if certain KPIs met.

I’m confused, because looking at your list 3 of those 5 wouldn’t go near it on a short term basis? 1 of them just wouldn’t go near it in general.

I dont like any of them for the long term either. I first thought of the criteria which I stated then if I am going to set a criteria only fair I stick my neck out and offer some names. Again short term, managed or in Arteta's case #2, and unemployed again exception to Arteta as he is #2 and Man C have stated they wouldn't stand in his way. Plenty there for me to be ripped apart 1. the criteria is wrong and 2. names are wrong. Happy to listen to more knowledge folk on the subject.

Guardiola also said that Ben Foden is the most gifted footballer he has ever seen.

We should not be hiring a manager based on a comment made by a Man City manager about his colleague and friend.
I mean he was a good fullback for Northampton and England but didn't realise he was so good at footy

The bit I don’t get is that most of the names don’t fit your criteria.

Pochettino wouldn’t take the job anyway, but 100000% wouldn’t take it as a 6 month “audition”

Arteta wouldn’t leave City for a 6 month deal

Benitez wouldn’t take it on a 6 month deal

Moyes and Unsworth would I suppose, but the other 3 don’t make any sense within your own parameters

Cant see him considering us when the arsenal job is vacant soon plus man u
I dunno, he said he would manage barca out of respect for his time at espanyol,
Would assume the same goes for arsenal having managed spurs?
The utd one is a strange one... They should be a bigger draw but at the minute the only thing they have on us is bigger revenue

Arsenal have apparently ruled him out due to Spurs links, but he wouldn’t even contemplate us anyway.

Thinking they would or wouldn't come gets a bit to complex and would exclude a lot of names, 3 by your reckoning, then would have many posters disagreeing with that. But splitting hairs as still left with Moyes anyway.

I’d be amazed if you could find ANYONE who reckons Arteta or Pochettino would take the job on a 6 month audition contract.
