NFL 2022 Season

Another thing the NFL needs to figure out — the offenses absolutely destroying a dramatic ending by running the entire clock down and then kicking a gimme field goal on the last play. Even if it had been the most obvious penalty ever, the ending would have still been hugely anticlimactic.

Well what can you do? There can't be some sort of "dramatic ending" stipulation inserted into the rules. That would be even more open to interpretation by officials and cause even more outrage. Bradberry got caught holding, he admitted it, it was clear as day on camera. Sometimes he might have gotten away with one, other times he might not have. But whatever happened, the ref saw it this time around.

I'm actually pretty surprised at the level of forensic analysis being applied to that single play. The Eagles will know themselves that they didn't lose because of that moment, they lost because their defence was on the field too much in the second half and were overmatched. They couldn't make a defensive play and they are the margins at that level. Certainly didn't ruin the Superbowl for me, thought it was a brilliant game

Aside from Eagles fans, and Chiefs haters the only reason why any neutral would want this mad rule implemented is to create drama, because they want never ending excitement from a game. It was a foul, clear as day, the rules are the rules. Move on.

And running down the clock to end a game isnt as easy as he makes it sound, either

Tbf Kev, this is incredibly rich coming from you. You were teetering wildly on the edge of conspiratorial nonsense and calling rules into question when the Eagles were ahead. Rules nutcases always only ever seem to materialise from the fanbases of whatever team is losing at the time.

But to your last point, the refs aren't going to see everything. Defenders know the risks they are taking when they are making a hold. The fact that it wasn't called earlier can't turn the game into a free-for-all, and the only reason the refs were probably looking out for it was because Philly were getting so torched easily by Kansas and their defence was clearly on its last legs.

It didn't help that the replay cameras were trained on the wrong thing either. While most people accept the hold for what it was now (Bradberry himself made it impossible to do otherwise) and have shifted to complaining about the "drama" being removed or whatever, I don't think there would be this level of outrage over what would be a fairly obscure moment in another game if the replays were homed in on the actual grab that preceded Schuster's run.

I actually dont mind the banter from opposing fans as its part and parcel of supporting a team.

What is worse is when neutrals with no dog in the fight get stuck in just so they can have a bit more drama added.

If the Chiefs go on a run over the next few years and their success starts to become grating for other fans, they are going to get accused by all the Kev the Rats that exist in the other fanbases of cheating, being on the receiving end of referee favouritism etc. just as you level the same accusations at the Pats now.

Out of interest, what would you say to all those other teams' Kev the Rats now?

I dont have a problem with the Pats, never expressed any issues with them as a whole tbh.

Brady on the other hand I view as a limited arm talent who had the fortune to be surrounded by some very good defenses in NE and TB. And yes, he had the refs on his side in multiple games. The same questions and insinuations havent been made of Mahomes, mainly because people are in awe of his natural ability. Most accept he is the superior talent to Brady, but needs to win more rings to become considered greater. The Super Bowl flag has been dealt with now, its been acknowledged as a legitimate penalty and is the only real issue thats been used against him in his 5 years as a starter.

I dont see changing the rules to stop teams from running down the clock (laughable btw) as an attack on the Chiefs or Mahomes per se.

I have seen a lot of it already, and we're still in the honeymoon phase of his career. It will grow the more successful he gets. I think it's all nonsense, but fans of conference or divisional rivals are rarely the most clear-eyed, impartial observers of greatness when its with the opposing team. As you have often demonstrated in dramatic fashion on this very thread

Me? The only thing I'm guilty of is saying that the Chiefs are the best team in the league, and Mahomes is the best QB and they both have been for several years. Its a statement some here questioned, but has now been proved indisputably as a fact. If people dont like it, I dont care.

I rarely comment on other teams or other teams players, apart from the likes of Josh Allen who the majority of this forum agree has deficiencies as a QB. I also have question marks over Joe Burrow's ability to win without top tier receivers, but that remains to be seen.

You literally melted down and called the NFL scripted when the Chiefs lost 2 years ago, and again last year in the conference final when Mahomes missed a single routine play. You are just as guilty for calling games rigged when the circumstances don't suit you as other people have been doing in light of this holding "controversy".

FWIW, I am in absolute agreement re: Mahomes. He put in the Superbowl performance to prove it now and there can be no doubt. If anyone is to challenge Brady of the current crop of QBs, it will be him, and he may have a better chance than I initially thought. They won a team while in a reconstruction, we haven't even seen what they are fully capable of.

to be fair you're right I lost it totally after that championship game, I just couldnt believe what happened. it was inexplicable.

I think with this super bowl victory the chiefs probably see whats possible in terms of multiple Super Bowls, and this will drive them on. I think they have a hardness to them now resembling the Patriots. They'll get better through the draft and FA as they had so many rookies this season especially on defense. They should win it again next year. I would expect Reid to coach another 5 years before retiring, so plenty of chances to win a few more.

Certainly deserved favourites. My only concern for them is Andy Reid, he always looks one steak sandwich away from an explosive coronary that will swallow Missouri

Is this the year Bieniemy goes for a head coaching job? Or is he staying put in the knowledge that he will eventually succeed Reid?

I've heard mutterings that he perhaps doesn't have the personality for a head coaching job, and that it's quit an obvious thing when you talk to him. No idea whether that's true, but I find it incredible he hasn't been touted as a HC candidate or really linked with any vacancy of note. Maybe he's just happy to be the OC for one of the most talented QBs that ever lived and a possibly historical offensive unit
