And probably the best defense in NFL history. There’s several other examples of mediocre/bad QB’s winning Super Bowls. Hell, Eli won it twice.
Yeah, but by and large those days are gone. The days when a Trent Dilfer game manager can win the Super Bowl are gone for the most part - even when Nick Foles won one he had a monster day - great offense won that Super Bowl.

I don't think great defenses can win a Super Bowl alone any more. Bucs last night played really good defense, got the benefit of atrocious play calling by the Chief offense, and had an offensive line that dominated the Chiefs to they could run or pass all night.

It was a dominant performance by them and honestly a WTF effort from KC. If Everton ever put up that effort in a big game GOT would be in full melt down

The media's excusing of Mahomes performance is going to really piss me off especially when my team's QB gets criticized for basically every incompletion. He was crap. The Oline stunk but you don't get to just wheel that excuse out because it is a guy you like when it doesn't count for everyone else.
Mahomes was running for his life all night. Travis Kelce dropped a few balls. And he had ZERO run game. ZERO. You can't play a decent defense like that, I don't care who you are

Just something that has been rattling round my head for a while now, but can a team endure long term success with a mobile QB. Obviously Its coming after last night but does a QB like Mahomes, Jackson, Newton with all the tricks, unconventional plays etc work long term?

As a mobile QB they are more affected by injuries and diminished by them. You look at the immobile lumps like Roethelesburger, Manning and Brady, there is minimal movement based on reading the opposition defence, greater poscket protection with only a minimum of movement and less injuries.

Mahomes, Newton, Jackson, even going back to Vick take big hits on regular basis. I just wonder in light of Romo's comments last night about what Mahomes will have to do to equal Brady, if he is even physically possible of lasting as long.
It's laughable to compare Mahomes, a bona fide QB with arm talent and pocket awareness who could play as a pocket QB exclusively if he had to, with the likes of Newton, Jackson and Vick.

Laughable

Fran Tarkenton and John Elway made it to eight Super Bowls between them. It’s not the mobility, it’s the hits they take and Mahomes really doesn’t take that many hits, last night excepted.
John Elway is the closest QB we've seen to Mahomes. Maybe Favre as well.

That's it. That's the list of guys like Mahomes

Who would have thought @Kev The Rat was Patrick's mom!!!

It's amazing, really, how Mahomes has turned out as a person. From what I know, he's a pretty class guy. His parents? They were a-holes back when Patrick was at Texas Tech.

That said... stick Patrick Mahomes on the Texans and Deshaun Watson on the Chiefs and y'all tell me who would be the toast of the NFL between the two.

He reminds me the most of Rodgers when he was really at his peak of mobility. Granted I'm too young for really peak Favre or Elway but in terms of arm and ability to extend plays those are the two who have the highest level I've seen.

Yeah I think we've underestimated how good this Chiefs team is overall. Smith had them as a top 5 offense in 2017 before Mahomes took over. They've got serious talent all over the roster.

Rothelisberger, Mahomes, Rodgers, Brees, Brady - Brady has been to so many SBs that he kind of skews it. However what an excellent QB does for you is get you into the playoffs almost every year. Usually teams that are really good w/o one, can win it, they just don't have a long shelf life.

49ers probably should have won it last year and Garrouploufous is mediocre. No one would have been shocked if Tenneesee would have won the SB this year and Tannehill is slightly better than avg. Even this year, Brady was pretty bad in the NFC championship was also a fringe top 10 QB throughout the season.
