I like the packers but when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s watching on channel 4 the Cowboys were my team and I always went them on madden on the mega drive . The packers and the pats were always awful on them games as well.

The reason I like the packers is they are a proper supporters club and love the stadium . To go there in a January play off game in the snow would be boss.

The NFL is the only sport were I could watch any game involving any teams .

Whereas you would never get be watching Swansea v Bournemouth for example.

Okay question for you NFL fans.

I was born in the UK.

Went to school in Florida and supported the closest team to me (Tampa). We won a Superbowl. Things were great.

Then I moved away from Florida and the Glazer family purchased Man U.

Since then Tampa has competed with traditional stalwarts like NYJ, Cleveland and Oakland for "most dysfunctional franchise." I know this was a hat the Bucs wore in the 70s and 80s but that was before my time (of watching NFL).

Perhaps most troubling (more than the fact we never win games) is the fact (before recent CBA changes) the Bucs had by far the lowest actual spend on salary of any team in the league. The Glazers were funnelling money from one team I support to go to a team that buys players from another team I support (and care about more).

I'm a big Mariota fan too and while Winston has positives for sure I think they were very close as prospects and when you factor in the pretty serious red flag on Winston the choice was obvious.

Of course the Bucs made the wrong decision IMO.

So ... this is a long way round to say: thoughts on changing the team you support?

It's something I could never countenance with Everton of course. The idea is abhorrent. However I can't shake one thing: I hate the Glazers. They have completely ruined this team. I don't enjoy watching the games, reading about the team etc.

Keeping Tampa makes sense on one level: I support USF in college (although as you'll see from a rant later I have little love for college sports) and the Lightning in hockey (just flew from Canada to Tampa for the Stanley Cup Final ... which didn't go well but was fun). I don't care about baseball (but I am a Rays fan is forced) or bounceyball (no team in Tampa) so all my US sports teams are in one city which is nice. However if I hate one of them that's not much help.

Am I stuck with this team because of "real sports fan" rules. If we follow the "sports commissioner" rules (Bill Simmons) I might have an out. Simmons wrote (http://proxy.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/020227):

The owner of your favorite team treated his fans so egregiously over the years that you couldn't take it anymore -- you would rather not follow them at all then support a franchise with this owner in charge. Just for the record, I reached this point with the Boston Bruins about six years ago. When it happens, you have two options: You can either renounce that team and pick someone else, or you can pretend they're dead, like you're a grieving widow. That's what I do. I'm an NHL widow. I don't even want to date another team.

OMG I bet it was the Bucs.

If you enjoy the basic tenets of slavery you'll love college football. ;) The "excitement" is mainly down to the lower skill level and how often teams make mistakes/turnovers/huge comebacks etc. As someone who went to uni in the US I can safely say that watching YOUR team make mistake after mistake is not remotely exciting. It also has the least parity of any major sport.

But yeah I guess if you are a neutral, just watch the top 10 teams (or just the SEC) and don't care that a lot of these people destroy their bodies for no money while the NCAA makes billions then it's fun I guess. I hate the whole culture of college football (I'm not talking about the bands and student section stuff which is undeniably fun -- I mean the actual operation itself is disgusting and bit racist TBH).

Also from the UK and I'm first and foremost a Pats fan but I've begun to follow the Browns because of Manziel. He won the Heisman as I got into following college and seeing his highlights blew me away. I'll never support them as much as I do the Pats but it's fun to follow them on Redzone. I do this for a few teams, teams that won't win but I like certain players, see the Lions with Stafford, Bucs with Evans and now Titans with Marcus.

On the teams in one city, I'm all spread out. Mainly East coast due to time differences but I'll stretch to watch West Coast Baseball of a summer.

With Manziel the difference between college and pro teams is the speed and smarts of the players and coaches. You can't run all around all day in the backfield as there are 300lb DLmen that are every bit as fast as you. You also can't chuck it up in traffic and have a WR come down with it. If you start running with the ball, everybody on the field can chase you down plus you'll get hurt. It makes the NFL a little sanitized as every team pretty much runs the same scheme which is why IMO college is a better watch.

The Glazers actually aren't bad owners and are pretty hands off and let the personel guys run the show. Also because of a salary cap everyone spends the same amount of money. In the NFL the rules today have made the game so skewed in favor of the passing game that if you don't have a QB you are going to struggle. Winston probably has a better chance to succeed (at least in the short term) than mariota IMO. Plus unlike a few years ago (when say the Rams had to pay out the nose for No.1 pick Bradford) if he's a bust there isn't a big cap hit because of the rookie salary cap.

If you like sausage don't go to the sausage factory. That's college football. Its dirty and disgusting, you hate yourself for loving it but damn it tastes good (subsitute John Oliver's rant about FIFA and replace it with the NCAA and it would still be spot on). I actually don't mind too much if college players don't get paid but once their NFL dreams are crushed the schools should concentrate on edcuating them by say tacking a couple years of paid tuition + paying for their injuries onto your scholarship after your elegibility is used up. Sadly and depressingly this isn't the case yet.

Going to have to go ahead and vehemently disagree with you here. They once called down to the head coach and ordered him to make a QB switch. Ordering the head coach to make certain decisions doesn't seem all that hands off to me.

Also because of a salary cap everyone spends the same amount of money.

Now there is a salary floor you are correct. However that's a very new rule. For the past ten years there was no minimum spend and the Glazers took advantage of that by having the league's lowest payroll by far. Just because the league changed the rules (likely in no small part because of the Glazers being so crappy) doesn't suddenly make them good owners.

Don't pay your student athletes, take care of them. Simple as that. The amount spent on team facilities is absurd--if these schools spent as much investing in these athletes' non-sporting futures as they did in their on-field exploits, they'd be well taken care of.

Hard knocks is a superb TV show. Really like the Houston Texans after this and watt was my favourite player last season .

I've watched Everton in the NRG stadium so I think I'll be having these as a second team for a bit more interest.
