2020/21 Niels Nkounkou

It's almost as if the whole Newcastle debacle has been blamed on Niels when it quite clearly wasn't the case.

I was worried Delph would get the minutes when Digne got injured but last week was inexcusable.

Now Delph is out the picture he simply must be involved and you would have to start fearing for his future at the club if he isn't.

I said Delph wouldn't last so stick Nkounkou in from day one.
After Godfrey's half decent cameo at LB, he will get the nod in a back 4
I think Godfrey will get the nod too. He did a half decent cameo against Liverpool at right back as well - but was then exposed at Southampton when starting there. Can imagine whoever starts there will struggle against Chelsea.

I think Nkounkou was signed for u23’s and we put the house on Digne staying fit for most of the year.

If Kenny (not good enough) and Nkounkou (not ready) aren’t deemed to be suitable backups when our starters are injured then we obviously needed better backups!

The problem is the amount of dross left in the squad from previous regimes which we obviously just couldn’t shift to free up money/space for necessary signings.

Although Godfrey did well today at left back, he's still a square peg in a round hole. play him at right back. He will more than likely be solid at the back, but on the left side won't offer anything going forward really. What's the problem with nkoukou? Does Carlo think he's going to waltz into our box, beat a few players and score an own goal? What's the worst that can happen?

I don't get the 'he's not ready' line. He's either good enough or not good enough.
He offers a good attacking overlap. Just play him ffs.

He's a kid bought to play for the youth or under 23s, didn't play a senior minute for Marseille.

Takes time

Good enough to play in the league cup Vs a PL team?
Brand signed him, thats his thing isn't it? spotting the unappreciated gem in somebody's reserves, buy cheap save you or make you £Ms. Thats his whole point? his reason to be here?
Isn't it?

I know he's ...one for the future etc..but if he's not good enough to step in as 3rd or 4th choice in an emergency then why bother in the first place?
If he isn't at the stage at his age where he's not as good as Cuco then why bother? Because that's an awful lot of 'Potential' to make up to get to the required level.

Nah, Ancelotti's lost the plot on this one

Edit; Its an 'And' 'Or' - He's of a minimum standard or whoever signed his is a tosser

Also begs the question that if we was purchased for the future and was not deemed to be “cover” for Digne then why the heck was a specialist left back capable of providing said cover not brought in?

So you think Delph would have been seen as Dignes back up going into this season ?

I'm not believing that, especially after his performances in the league cup, which, before someone says against crap opposition, included a premier league team.

The lad isn't 15 or 16, he's 20 years of age.

Do you still think he shouldn't be in the squad now with not one fit left footed player at the club ?

He will have to bring in a left back in January.

Kenny certainly needs to go if he isn’t deemed good enough. Shame cos inthink the club should have more home grown players around the squad.
Man Utd in their peak always had players like wes brown, John O’Shea, butt - not automatic starters but ones that got regular game time and come through the ranks. It’s important to the fabric of the club and inspirational for those in the u23 and academy system

We needed a new midfield, so we bought 3 players...that emptied the pot so somebody(s) took a gamble that Digne wouldn't get injured - and lost.

Got a feeling this could go the way of Vlasic and Lookman. If we make a decent profit fair enough, but we could miss out on players that could improve us purely by playing players out of position rather than give them a chance.
