Look at the last month and judge it on form.

You're incapable of doing so as you're agenda driven against the guy, but there's no way you can make an argument for Lukaku to be ahead of Jelavic on form alone over the last month, and that's all that matters to me.

Also, these "9 months since a goal" etc. are skewed by the fact he's barely started a game since last season. We're playing an entirely new system with a new manager now.

Here are the facts:

* Lukaku has failed to impress over the last month.
* Jelavic has looked lively off the bench and could have had one or two goals lately.
* Jelavic takes two goals on a start. It doesn't matter what the opposition is, he's took his chance and scored two goals in 90 minutes of football.

Those saying Jelavic doesn't deserve at least a chance in the first team are hating on the guy for the sake of not wanting to be wrong rather than using common sense IMO.

The irony of people pointing to Lukaku's form in November to justify his start yet ignoring his more recent form is amazing. In fact, it's just as amazing as people completely ignoring what Jelavic has done lately and talking exclusively about a year ago.

Would you rather him be sold for, say £3.5m (as has been quoted?), or for him to get another chance at a starting role in the league?

Really is that simple. He could score a goal a game and fire us to Europe, or he could be absolute turd but at least Lukaku would get the message that he has to perform consistently to be playing 90 minutes every game for Everton.

It's a win win. I am absolutely baffled by the reaction to Jelavic today from some quarters. People should be happy that an Everton striker just scored two goals and is providing competition for the first team!

Let's look at the last 180 minutes of football for both players, as that's a fair comparison point isn't it?

I could say "Andy Johnson scored 10 goals in 2006, Lukaku has scored 1 in the last 60 minutes - who is in form?" - it wouldn't make any sense, but that's basically what you're doing!

He's started five PL games this season and been hauled off before full time in every one because he was utterly useless, so lets not act as if he's not had a chance under Martinez.

You go on what is in front of you - Jelavic starts, scores two goals. That's his "form". 35 games ago is a statistic.

"Form" implies recency.

Not sure what threads you've been reading mate, been plenty of praise for him. What people aren't agreeing with is this idea that as a result he should start against Norwich. Whole different thing.

It doesn't work that way! Form is what they're doing now, or in a reasonable amount of time going backwards - not months on end.

For example, Benteke is "out of form". If I were to apply the logic you lot are to Jelavic, then I'd be looking at last year and saying that Benteke is still in form. It doesn't work that way.

Lukaku - Last month's form, one goal, multiple poor performances.
Jelavic - Last month's form, two goals, good cameos off the bench, good 90 minute performance.

I'm NOT saying he's "the answer" or should start every game, but he very clearly should be given the start against Norwich to prove whether it's a fluke or not. If he screws up and looks useless, so be it, but you reward the possibility of good form.
