One minute it's 'come on get this done FFS'. Next minute it's 'typical Everton paying over the odds FFS'.
What about this simple scenario: The reason it's being strung out probably to the last minute is because we are driving a hard bargain and refusing to meet Rangers' valuation or anything like it. OK they know we desperately need a striker. But we know that 1) they desperately need the money, and 2) the player desperately wants to come to the EPL to join us. A lot of desperation there I know, but it would explain the game of brinkmanship, and why this probably will go to the wire. I'd say it will be done at 10.55 tomorrow night and he'll sign for us.
Neiler, this feller has zero European profile outrside of Austria. It's just not right to say he has. He has two goals in 17 games for Croatia. He is not an £8M player (which given your formula with add ons he'd cost Everton eventally). As I said. £2-3M punt = no problem. Breaking the bank for a no paced striker = madness.
As for Fletcher and the other feller - how much did they go for? I'm not saying the Scottish league cant tip up some decent journeymen (it can) but there's no superstars there you'd pay good money for. I still cant believe how that Russian club paid big money for McGeady, tbh. I was astonished because he's another one trick pony who can be sorted out in a good league in pretty short order.
Patience lids, patience.

Thats not entirely true to be honest, he scored 4 in 6 games started in the Europa with Rapid with 1 assist in the alternate game and only played 2 for Rangers with 1 assist.
He has only ever started 5 games for Croatia to be honest, so you have to give some context as well in terms of international record, he really only became considered a first choice option in the last year and began to start a couple of games.
Personally and i have a season tickets for Parkhead, i wouldn't be as dismissive of the SPL in general terms, though admittedly the PL is of a higher consistent standard the gap in quality isn't as much as Sky Sorts would have you believe and increasingly less so. Certainly players at the Old Firm are of a comparative standard to the majority of PL teams. Its like every other league - there are some gems. I think if anything Scottish football is clearly on the rise. For every failure down south there is an equal success story. Fletcher went to Burnley for 4 mill and then went to Wolves for 7 mill. I think we all know the Larsson story. I guess you also have the likes of McCarthy, Adam etc who have all played their trade in the SPL, while the best young talent is being snaffled by PL clubs.
I think its a bit over genralised to dismiss talent coming through the SPL - there are a fair few increasingly more so of late crossing the border and being successful. I would love us to sign Forrest who is actually a gem, Izaguirre, Kayal and one or two others, its like everything you have to your scouting and trust your eye for a player.
As for Jelavic, like i said he will score 10-15 goals a season for us hes also a decent provider with good vision, he is a clever player, he will improve us, ive seen a lot of him - i have no doubt about that. To be honest i don't think any striker, certainly one within our price range wont better that given the way we play and our system. Moyes is a huge fan of his and he is one of our top targets. I guess time will be the leveler on this one.
Expect the fee to be the middle of 6-8, as i hear it, though its not as done as many would suggest - the player is onside though.
He's a poor mans Berbatov.
Neiler, if you watch that league - outside of Championship quality Celtic and Rangers - the likes of St Johnstone or Dunfermline or Hibs couldn't trouble a League One club down here. That's the measuring rod you have to gauge Jelavic's perfornances by. I'm convinced that we're looking at throwing £6-8M away on him because we have a non-existent scouting system where it matters in Europe. Moyes just hasn't assembled the infrastructure at this club.
Ask yourself this: why have no other PL clubs been willing to touch this feller with a shittty stick? It's because the price is way out of synch with what he potentially offers a PL club.
