Nikica Jelavic

Paying £6M to find out whether someone's the new Kenny Miller or a half-decent PL forward is a crazy move for a club in Everton's position.

This will be Moyes' last big roll of the transfer dice before he leaves if this doesn't come off.

As said though, he's here now so we have to give him a chance.

Sad to say I completely agree with Daveck.

But I hope I'm wrong. If the lad was a defensive midfielder I'd have complete faith in Moyes but I don't ever remember us signing a successful striker for £5m+. They've pretty much all flopped, and most of them came with a higher pedigree than Jelavic.

That said, once a lid puts on the royal blue they have my full support.

Without sounding negative, lets not get too excited and expect this lad to come in and do what Kevin Campbell did for us all those years back.

Jelavic has never played in the EPL before and will therefore be unfamiliar with both it's pace and the quality of players preventing him space and goalscoring opportunities, when compared to the other leagues he's played in during his career.

As with everyone else, I'll be fully behind this lad as and when he's signed on the dotted line, but I'm staying realistic here and not expecting him to come out and score overhead kicks and hatricks right from the off. Few players are able to do that in this day and age and require some bedding in period before they start firing on all cylinders.

The only thing that concerns me is none of the goals I've seen has involved him beating a man or at least facing them up and shooting past them. Obviously it's extremely difficult to judge a player from video clips, but I'd expect most strikers to have scored a couple of goals of that type.

At the same time, you can't expect to buy a 26 year old forward for 5mil and expect them to be the complete player. People seem to think he's a decent technical player, that's encouraging for me, we'll have to see what he's like in the flesh.

i don't think he will go mad scoring goals, but at least we have a striker in now saha can up his game because if
Jelavic starts well saha will be out.

even if he was only to get 7 goals and two of the goals were to beat liverpool at analfield and the other one at wembley
in the FA cup final i couldn't get a flying fcuk if he didn't score another one.:pint:

He's tall, he has a decent workrate, he scores different goals from scissor kicks to tap ins. He can play his back to the goal and play people in. I think he might be the best option for us, really. He'll also get immediate game time because our predicament. This season's top scorer for us, nailed on. (w/ 5 goals, lulz)
The thing with him is that I can't really see Timmy benefiting being played as a SS / AM behind him, so I hope we'll place someone with decent skills and a shot behind the Jella-fella.

Good point, I thought that from the clips as well.

I happen to still think Saha can finish. It's just going past players and getting in front of the defender that he can no longer do. Now it doesn't look like this lad can do the former but if he can do the latter then it will be improvement.

It's also possible that the way Moyes has in recent times sets up his team, no striker will ever prosper in an Everton shirt.

we haven't had the best of luck with strikers over the last few years with yak,Beckford, saha,AJ, Beattie,
so hopefully this one will turn good for us which i think it might

This feller will struggle without a lot of support in the premier league. He was used to a partner up there. If Moyes dumps the habit of a lifetime and goes with two out and out forwards he may produce some results. If he's on his todd then he'll be swamped.

Was thinking the same thing - perhaps a late deal to make it double Jel' - Vossen would be great in that role.
