Non League Football

I’ve a family connection with Solihull…. How was the game mate?
Solihull look a good side. Solid at the back with some very quick, skilful forwards. The 4-1 scowling reflected how poor Aldershot were after the first 15 mins but Solihull look decent and a good bet for the play offs at least.
I used to work a mile or so from the old Solihull Borough ground and saw Moor Green play at Waterlooville before their own merger with Havant back in the early 90’s.

FA Cup was back at the weekend with a mixed bag for our local sides.

Congleton 0-0 Bootle - Replay is tomorrow
Skem Utd 1-3 Prescot
Ramsbottom 0-0 City of Liverpool Nomads - Replay is Wednesday
Widnes 0-2 AFC Bury
Trafford 1-2 Runcorn Linnets

Marine and both Warrington’s enter at the next stage, which is published at 1pm.

Got a soft spot for the Dolly blues as I was at Uni there. Great crowd that for midweek.

Used to be Barrow's regular Boxing Day/New Years Day fixture, obviously with the holiday and only being an hour away we used to take anything between 1000 & 1500 to the away game. Some good memories, not so much some of the the coach journey's on New Years Day, even though it was only an hour ??

Always a great Pie and Peas there.

I saw Barrow a few times. My mate supported them. Must be the coldest place I've ever been to ?

Haha, when that wind comes through the open end it can get a bit nippy. Many a times after a midweek game you would find me lying on my back with my feet on the radiator, when we got back home lol.

Although the coldest I ever was at a game was away to Emley, their ground was right at the top of a hill and completely open on one side, before they moved ground into Wakefield Early January, blustery cold wind coming in and a boring goalless draw did not help matters. Luckily they had a good sized bar, that we could all warm up in before getting on the coach for the journey home, they had paid for it from a cup tie with West Ham, if I remember rightly.

Marine pulled a crowd of over 1,100 for second time in a week as we drew 2-2 with Promotion favourites, Kevin Phillips’ South Shields 2-2.

A great start to the season.
Got to be a good money earner now Marine with the new bar, I went last weekend and try and go oncr a mo th always enjoying, apart from seeing Carragher at every home game.

Purps v Macclesfield (big spending) this weekend for me

Yeah; the new bar is great.

We’ve installed bars down the far end too, and the Bistro food is really quite good.

We’ve got Marske on Saturday (Top of the league) and the. Off to Warrington Rylands on Monday.

New 3G pitch means they’ll just become self sustainable now, which is great for the community.

Went to watch Cables today v Runcorn Linnets. Glorious afternoon for watching a decent, competitive match. Cables scored midway through second half to take the points and continue their decent start to the season. Nice to see a decent size gate too (just shy of 700),though I can't deny that it was irritating listening to a couple of kids stood near us shouting out every Liverpool goal that went in this afternoon! Hopefully they'll be a bit quieter next week. Hoping to get to a game at Marine soon and visit that new bar!
