Non League Football

I went to Bootle yesterday and watched Bootle concede in 95th minute; to draw 1-1 with Trafford.

To say Bootle are 4th and have a bit of space before missing our on playoffs, thought they were poor barring the goalkeeper, Tony Thompson who went off injured after bravely getting stuck in a 50/50. Bootle then impressively played 35/40 mins with an out fielder in goal.

The lad who scored, Hodkinson, if he had consistency with his end product would be at a much higher level.

As a neutral of that's how Bootle play week in week out; it's truly a poor NPLW this season.

Good Luck to Bootle for the rest of the season.

Used to play for Widnes, I always thought he was too good for level 8 but obviously there’s a reason he hasn’t kicked on and moved upwards. Think he had a brief spell at Marine the other year didn’t he? Cracking player, would love him back.

Lovely lad Ben; got to know him a bit towards the back end of the season.

He is very direct and tricky, but just lacking consistency with his delivery and final efforts.

Came to Marine and the level was possibly a little too high; he ran, and never gave up, but just lacked the end quality to aid us.

I'm sure if Bootle come up, he'll be in a more normal environment and may well do better.

How’s Jay Roberts been getting on at Bootle? We’ve never really replaced him, been making do with makeshift right backs for most of the season. Top right back for this level, Whites legend.

Mixed bag on Easter Monday for local sides.

Southport 0-1 Scunthorpe... was told pre game that Scunthorpe hadn't won a game in April since 2018. Now over

Chester 0-2 Alfreton - A big loss in their push for promotion. 3 games to go; 3 points off the playoffs.

Northern Premier League

Warrington Rylands 2-0 Marine. Tough one to swallow. Rylands more or less did a Wimbledon; ugly but effective football and completely controlled the game. Marine should still make playoffs but face prospect of a return to Rylands then Macclesfield to reach the National League North.

Northern Premier League West

City of Lpool P-P Bootle - Waterlogged pitch meant no big crowd and others had a chance to close the gap.

Prescot 2-2 Runcorn Linnets - apparently an entertaining game which benefits both, sitting 7 and 5 points above 6th place.

Had it brought to my attention to include Widnes in round-up. Widnes are having a terrific season and a very profitable easter weekend, taking 6 from 6 by beating Hanley 1-0 on Saturday before beating Vauxhall 2-1 yesterday. To make playoffs will have to do it the hard way with games against Runcorn, Prescot and Nantwich to come.

Other bits
9th April - Prescot - Marine in the senior cup semi final. 7:45pm KO
Homebargains FC have made the final of Amateur Vase and will contest the final at Stoke City, congrats to them.

Can only comment on the game I went to and thought he had a really solid game to be honest.

Seems like a steady head; this level
May well be his level, but thought he has a very solid game. Stood out to me.

He’s a really good player for this level, just the wrong side of 30 now though but still so solid and reliable, good on the ball and very rarely gives it away or gets dispossessed. Like I said Widnes have missed his overlaps and attacking threat on that side since he left in November.

Widnes are having their own goal of the season competition this season. Take a look at some of these.

Out of curiosity, how is the new stadium coming along? Last time I spoke to an official they told me they'd secured a site but I've not heard anything for nearly a year now.
