Non League Football

Widnes just beat Prescot Cables 4-2 to go within 2 points of a playoff place with 3 games to go @barneygumble

A huge result for Widnes; always thought you were done for when Cables got back go 2-2; but fair dos and a good turnout of 600+.

Solely in your hands now. If you can get through the next fortnight; Linnets asst, Nantwich Home (along with Kidsgrove) and make the playoffs it'll be some achievement!

I personally have Nantwich as my playoff favourites; my preference is any of Linnets/Cables/Bootle/Purps/Widnes, even though Widnes is a shocker of an away.

Great result though! Very impressed!

I’d make City of Liverpool just about favourites for the last playoff spot currently with their game in hand. Widnes have been in great form but still looking for one or two favours and CoL and Witton to drop points. Widnes v Nantwich on the final day could be an absolute blockbuster.

With no Everton this weekend; thought I'd do a non-League round up In case anyone sees it and feels inspired.

Penultimate week of the season in the National League North, Southport host their final home game, against a resurgent and now safe Rushall Olympic knowing 3 pointe would surely secure their NL North status for another season.

Chester's slim chances of playoffs on the line as they face Brackley away.

In the Northern Premier;  Marine travel to Workington; their first visit since their triumphant last gasp leveller and ET winner in playoffs a few years ago; seeking a similar fate this year, 6 points out the final 3 games will clinch the playoffs.

In the NPL West; it's very much still all to play for. Following Widnes' victory last night; Prescot Cables failed to clinch their playoff space.

todays fixtures are as follows

City of Liverpool vs. Kidsgrove
Leek Town (C) Vs. Bootle
Hanley Town vs. Runcorn Linnets

Having lost 6-4 last weekend, City of Liverpool need to win to keep any hopes of playoffs alive; Bootle travel to, Champions Elect Leek Town, knowing points needed to keep pressure off from Nantwich and Witton and increase chances of a home playoff.
Runcorn have a bit of leeway, should they beat Hanley they will confirm their playoff status and increase their chances of home advantage in the playoffs.

Enjoy all who are taking in a game today, where that is.

To be honest, I'd really not make the Purps the favourites now. That might change if they beat Bootle on Wednesday; but with Witton last game, I'd actually say their chances are quite slim.

The league has struggled for consistency this year for me; if you can get a run of form together (Nantwich for example have won 7 of 8) anything is possible.

Likewise, having rivals in the run in, could easily suit Widnes for me. That last day is going to be a cracking day even with Bootle travelling to Hednesford who may not be guaranteed a reprieve for next season just yet.

Considering going to Kings Lynn v Peterborough Sports today.
Both teams won midweek so are now safe from relegation, which has put me off a bit.
Eighteen quid a ticket, crap beer, also negatives. Although weather is ok, and missus in one her moods, so I’ll probably go.

£18 is pricy! Blimey.

Enjoy, believe King's Lynn have the top goalscorer of the NPL (despite leaving in Jan), Jonny Margetts!

Aldershot v Boreham Wood for me today. (National League). Shots need a win to stay in the play off race in what is their last home game of the season. If not at Aldershot, would have gone to Bath City v Torquay (National League South) with the Romans also poised to make the play offs in a very tight race. Torquay sadly now in administration but new owners expected shortly.
