Non League Football

Also worried about Bury; having dealt with both Radcliffe and Macc this year; (I'd love should we not go up this season), 2 cracks at winning the NPL.

It seems for whatever reason; when a club restarts to bring out a load of neanderthal fans and that's what I'm seeing with Bury and Macc; only a small section, but ultimately it's what's going to cost Bury the title; as they lost points due to crowd trouble.

I do genuinely feel if you can build on this season; you'll have a great chance next season.
I'd say the strongest teams will be Witton/Runcorn and Nantwich, so every chance to build on it.
You do seem to get a patronising and sneering section of these reformed clubs support. As if they are too big for non league. Saying how crap the grounds are etc. Even AFC Wimbledon had a bit of that when they went up.
Some of their fans are not used to the best aspects of non league, the friendship between fans and changing ends it HT/drinking in the same bar.

I think it's safe to say that some football fans are not the brightest sparks; as expected.

But when it's this new, shiny thing as seen with FC United, Macc, Bury it brings out the dregs, I don't know why, It just does. Macc averaging double what they were getting in League 2, for example.

Macc had to segregate the away end as their fans couldn't be trusted, had scraps with pretty much anyone who wanted a scrap when they reformed. Congleton seemed to be a pretty heavy one if I recall.

Looks like it's happening at Bury too; think it's more they are league clubs, how dare they lose to Ramsbottom, Witton, Winsford etc.

But my issue is, it's just a competitive advantage. Macclesfield budget is only on par with Radcliffe in the NPL.

Without either of them, you've got an exciting final couple of weeks, where 1 of 4 sides could have been in for the title.

Met some wonderful people (and some unsavoury) in aways I've done with Marine this season and in others I've went to. A pint in your hand watching the football is just magic.

Exactly that, and the bit about fans mingling in the same bar etc.
Watching Nantwich this last few season has reignited my love for footy. Whereas I would stay in and watch the blues on the snide stick, I can go and watch Nantwich, 3 or 4 bevvies in the ground at just over a fiver a pint, then into town for a few more. It's a boss afternoon for the price of just one PL ticket.
Speaking to non league supporters about footy is far far more interesting that discussing the same old Dirk Kuyt about the PL, VAR etc.
I didn't realise there was a bit of a hoolie element, not seen it in leafy Nantwich, since I started going.

I assume you can take your pint out of the bar in Nantwich now, I went a few years ago and you couldn’t. Worse thing was Dean Saunders holding court in there , I had to drink my pint double quick.

Cheap ticket prices is my best guess.

There's some very suspect places for sure. There's a lot more Tragedy chanting from certain crowds.

But the bigger following so the likes of Macc and Bury just have the "fans" who act the goat a little.

Locally, the only real bit of animosity is between Marine-City of Liv but nothing significant; was a bit of a tussle last time away.

But yeah, my Marine season ticket costs me £160, I get 21 games on that, so roughly £7 a game, so if everton Clashes it isn't soul destroying.

The quality is far higher than people expect... its far from the overweight ale house lads people seem to associate with non-league.

Dear god, that is shameful from Savage and co. It’s not like they’re struggling for cash is it.

I believe the narrative that Rob Smethurst is pushing is that it's because the stadoum has considerable matchday costs...

Which makes no sense as every side has them. Just greed. Believe they've got a budget similar to that of a National League side.

The next expensive in our league were Hyde; which costs you £14.

They signed some lad straight from Crewe on a free last season when they were in the NPL West. A player dropping from League 1 to level 8 just like that, says to me they’re paying at the very least National League wages. Not a fair fight at all for clubs like us.

I think the quality of play is excellent. Not heard any tragedy chanting tbh, but then it's Nantwich, and I haven't seen them play a Merseyside team yet. Generally the most epic bantz I get is fellas hearing my accent and then talk about 'watch your hubcaps' etc, but then that's the standard f***wittery you get anywhere in this country.

I'll be interested to see what the atmosphere is like when they play CoL this weekend. Do CoL bring a decent following?

I have a feeling well see more and more sides falling and restarting.

It's a thankless task being in any form of lower league, which includes the the championship.

In the National League North, there are some teams who are operating at significant losses and over million in debt.

It'd a shame for self sustaining clubs like a Widnes, Bootle that their reward for being financially prudent is one promotion spot taken away when the likes of Bury & Macc come into the league.

Thanks to the cup run, Marine have a very competitive budget; but would soon rin dry if we ever tried to compete with Macc, Radcliffe.

Not really. They seem to have a load of mouthy online keyboard warrior fans, but when you actually go to a game it’s about 150 old fellas who just sit politely in silence with purple bobble hats and clap.

It's places in the arse end of nowhere like Kidsgrove, Ilkeston, Workington where they the fans don't usually see a crowd etc where you get a few wise people who think they're hilarious.

The majority of Marine fans are blue or Red on top, so I'm not sure why they're surprised when the fans naturally kick off.

Nantwich a good little ground; could really do with 2-3 steps behind the terrace because it's totally flat so you can't see a thing unless you're at the front.

Nantwich manager lives round the corner from me; see him regularly, nice fella.

No, Purps don't really travel well. They've lost a significant amount of their fanbase due to the first move to Ellesmere Port; played Bootle in Widnes last night, where attendance was stated as 700+, but I'd be surprised if there was half that.

I'd expect 20-30 at a push?
