Northern Ireland

Congrats lads, You've earned it. I just hope we can pass through as best group 3rd, it depends on that Ukraine-Spain match on Monday. I would love us to be at the Euros even if that means everyone will beat us. It was so long ago we made that the fact itself that we could be there feels good. Anyway, bon voyage to Northern Ireland!

100% agreed, much deserved and hope Hungary make it too.

The likes of Bosnia, Cyprus and the Faroe Islands will be watching and thinking "I can do that too".

I have an Irish passport, I am very proud to do so, was annoyed when they changed the colour away from green, preferred having a green passport to the amorphous one I have now.

I support Northern Ireland, I was born in County Down, County Down is in the north. I always want the South to win, except when the play the North. Some empty head said on here the majority Northern Ireland fans were sectarian knobheads, I don't know the majority of the fans, perhaps he does, perhaps he is right. But when I go to a game I support the team not the fans.
Northern Ireland's achievement is outstanding, when the Republic beat Poland their qualification will be outstanding. To have both teams in the finals I would be a sensation.
That's fair enough mate and good post but you can't expect to post the words Londonderry on here and not upset people now in fairness lad..anyways moving on Shamrock Rovers legend is mick oneill and Steven Davies would do a go job for the toffees IMO..

I think the euros has lost it's status now though. It's not even going to be a proper tournament in the one location next time round after France. Qualifying for it isn't the achievement it once was. I think that's borne out by teams like Iceland and NI topping their groups.

But saying that, posting the words Derry would upset people as well then?

It may be a little odd and there are a lot of surprising results lately but I think it's just the normal circle of football life. There's nothing interesting at all if every time the same 10 teams are the best and no one can compete with them. In this group who would have thought that Greece will finish 6th and even Faroe Island will be ahead of them? I certainly didn't. NI took the opportunity and gave their best through the whole qualification. And as for the other groups it's the same. For me the interesting thing to see at the EC will be how the bigger nations will handle to play against weaker opponents in the group stages. If they aren't careful enough there can be also some surprising results and it's much more fun.

Why? That's what the place is called..

Always known it as LD myself. But being English, not sure why if I am honest. You said referring to it a LD would upset "people on here", so assumed that referring to it as Derry would upset others.

No offence or anything, genuinely curious.

Hungary are not a small football power historically mate. You have a proud history. I wouldn't have bat an eyelid if the Magyars had qualified.

I agree, I like that there'll be minnows in there like NI giving it a go to see if they can score a goal. it's what footballs all about. But I think history will show that the status of the tournament defo peaked in the 90s and noughties.

I am astounded at some of the comments on here. Northern Ireland, a country of 1·6 million people have qualified for the Euro Finals, they could top the group if they can get 11 players who have sobered up to face Finland and people bad mouth the achievement. Hopefully the South will beat Poland and qualify automatically.
I have been to Windsor Park on many occasions, it used to be a scary experience but over the past few years it has improved beyond belief.
I have been away with the Republic and it is a brilliant experience.
What Northern Ireland have achieved is remarkable and every football fan should congratulate them without any snide remarks.

Don't worry mate, it's just because everyone is qualifying for the finals except Scotland.........

Steve Davies is a footballing hero over here, would love to have seen him at Everton, would love to see any Northern Ireland player at Everton.
