Am I missing something here? Mata is an outstanding player and I'd take him in a straight swap for Rooney let alone Mata and another 10 million.
Mata was outstanding for Chelsea last year I'm not sure I believe that offer to be honest.
Mata is half the player Rooney is. He's quite simply still the most outstandingly talented player this country has. People on the continent hold this feller in the same esteem as Scholes, Rooney's predecessor as the most technically gifted British player.
Someone is going to get the bargain of the century by getting hold of Rooney for circa £25M.
agreed. Mata is a real talent, but think United must be aware what Rooney could go and do with a fresh start. He isn't just a talent, he is exactly the kind of talisman that Mourinho will want. Mata at his best last year is equivalent to a Rooney who looked disheartened and lacking in confidence. If his confidence is up he will win them the league
Mata is good, very good. But as you say he's not the type of player who can change seasons with massive displays of pitch coverage that can inspire those around him. Rooney sees things that others just dont see. And his biggest quality for me is his selflessness - very rare in a talent like that - where he's happy to allow others to get the spotlight when it's really him pulling all the strings making it happen. Ronaldo wouldn't have had the impact at United if it wasn't for Rooney's unselfish running and build up play. United got really lucky when they had Rooney come in and seamlessly replace Scholes. Which makes the cash we accepted for him at the time a complete robbery. He was worth £50M even back then.
I wouldn't bet against Mourinho playing Rooney further forward and bringing back De Bruyne for some of the legwork/creative work from deep...if they get him like.I think there are players who can make what is extremely difficult look easy. They tend to always be underrated and United will have lost two of them if Rooney follows Scholes out the club. I felt sick for years after he left. Have already put my money on at 50 to 1 that Chelsea will win title with him top scorer.

Does the sell on % to us still exist or not?
some lid on twitter reckons its 25%?
In that case...we want something around a £50M bid from chelsea or something! Mind you, Beckfords, just given the club a nice little bonus.
'where the beckford money bill?'
