Not A Transfer Rumour..... Wayne Rooney

Oh I agree Moyes has been a prick too, his comments about being back up for RVP were extremely petty and showed a lack of man management skills.

They are both as bad as each other really. Rooneys best plan would be to prove Moyes wrong by making himself undroppable. He has the ability to do so.
Usually Moyes best attribute is man-management but not when it comes to egos. Didn't like it when he pulled Mirallas up in public either (another ego)

That comment was a deliberate ploy to antagonise Rooney imo. The 'game' is to make him hand in a transfer request, thus saving them £m's in loyalty payments. The footballing decision to move Rooney on, was made at the back end of last season by SAF, when he went public over their supposed spat & told the United faithful that he'd asked to leave again (which Rooney denied). Moyes is merely continuing with the delivery of that decision. Rooney will not be a United player on the 1st Sept.

So when do you reckon SAF and Moyes first discussed this?

In this instance, Rooney is not the prick.I wasn't pleased, like many(most?) Evertonians with Rooneys attitude towards Everton over the transfer to United, and subsequently, but tempered my displeasure with the thought that Stretford was playing him like a glove puppet, and Rooney was young and impressionable. This time round, however I feel that the 'pricks' are SAY and our former manager. It is reasonable to assume that SAF and DM discussed Rooney at some time since last Christmas, and DMs recent words about back up for RVP were not off the cuff, but calculated, and probably calculated by SAF. Moyes will be quite prepared to give Rooney very minimal playing time and this was always going to be the case. So much for 'I've had four long chats with Wayne and he's in good shape,etc...'more unreliable bollocks from the mouth of DM. Rooney was never going to have a future at Man U under Moyes and I have some sympathy with Rooney in this situation, from a footballing point of view and expect that he does feel angry and confused. As for Moyes, he probably feels quite triumphant, depending on how bloody minded he really is.
All this also points ,at a stretch, to Moyes and SAF having more converstions than the summons to SAFs pad to give DM the job. The whole Moyes to United situation stinks to high heaven. What happened to asking a club if you could speak to their manager, etc? Rooney has been had off by SAF and Moyes, big style, and whatever has gone on ten years ago re the transfer, and up to last season, Rooney does not deserve the treatment he is getting.
OK, he has earned a lot of money for himself and other people, but I still feel that the lad basically just wants to play football.

does seem like most of his arrogant behaviour is engineered by Stretford. Hard to get info on it but supposedly Stretford approached Rooney's family with a cash offer for them when he was very young and still with another agent. He has been a commodity to him but deep down I think there is a lad who just wants to play and show what he really can do. Even when I was trying to hate him anything I heard from people who knew his family were that Rooney was a likeable lad and deep down as big a blue as any of us. its probably his lack of ego that has seem him valued less than RVP even though he is twice the player

No idea Steve, but I'd imagine it was fairly high on the agenda when they first sat down to discuss the current state of affairs at United. I actually believed Moyes story about the invite round etc, but the date of that invitation was probably a month or so prior to what he suggested.

So, whenever that summons to Fergies first took place, do you think that SAF said to Moyes...'We've asked Bill K for permission to talk to you' ? Or was he in fact 'tapping up' ? Had the Glazers not met Moyes? Had the then Man U CEO not met Mpyes? It was simply a case of SAF summoning Moyes to his gaff and saying 'I'm retiring and you will take over my job' ? Sounds ludicrous, doesn't it?

I can see him going because he'll have the power to force anything he wants, just like last time when he managed to eek another 100k a week out of them.

Risky game though, always the possibility of RVP hitting the deck at any time and with the likes of Falcao & Cavani having already moved means it could be harder than it seems to replace him with real quality.

Unless they manage to sign both Suarez and Aguero, imagine the scenes.

What's worth more, getting Rooney off the wage bill and a decent transfer fee, or winning the league ?

The decsion that's been made in regards to Rooney is a footballing one. SAF decided that it was time for him to move on, same as he did with Ince, Beckham, Stam, Van Nistelroy etc etc etc.

I think it's obvious that it was done behind Bill's back, he naively still felt he had a chance of keeping him imo, so it was 'tapping up' same as most player or manager deals are these days. In any other club I'd agree that not meeting the CEO first etc would sound ludicrous, but Ferguson's iconic & unique standing there, probably gave him total licence to choose his successor.

If Rooney has decided he won't go abroad then what do United do? Moyes will want to look in charge of the situation but realistically any decision he makes looks likely to come back and haunt him. Have been thinking for a long time that a loan to a club thats not challenging for the title is the one way United save face but his agent clearly wouldn't accept it. I am wondering if Moyes really knew how bad things were with Rooney and the club or has Sir Alex duped him a little here.

Thats fair comment, but additionally, I think Moyes will have known how bad the situation was between Moyes and Rooney. When Rooney first started feeling pushed out at United, and realised it was it was deliberate, do you think Rooney knew then that Moyes was to be the new manager....
Hyperthetically (but a reasonable speculation?)...in Decemeber 'You're the new manager, David, and we're getting rid of Rooney, because we know that neither of you will work with the other.' SAFs cursory pat to Rooney at the Champion celebrations, when every other player was hugged, said a lot.

Getting Rooney off the wage bill...

You could maybe win the league with the cash generated from him leaving. He wont provide any help winning the league sat in the stands.

possibly makes more sense. its one thing sorting out the level of bad blood there was between Moyes and Rooney on a legal level but there has got to be a massive amount of suspicion under the surface. Could have been handled differently without all the underhand comments about Rooney but although everyone is talking about Rooney's ego, easy to forget that SAF's ego is massive and Moyes is definitely showing signs of the same, so they will put seeming completely in control of the situation as a priority. Just want to see Rooney giving the smug Old Trafford crowd a v sign with any other team. the dream would be its us but I try forget that idea
