Seems a bit odd to me. If he's put in a transfer request because of playing time or becoming second fiddle as fergie seemed to suggest then surely the retirement of fergie and a new manager (grrr) coming in would change all that, and you would think he'd be happy to fight it out for his place like the rest with a clean slate? Having said that fergie will still be there in some capacity...
The worst time for us really to have any chance of getting him home.

2yrs left on current deal means he's still going to command a big fee this summer 20-30M
Even if we sold fellaini and used all that on Rooney we'd still need a quality CM and 3/4 squad players of better quality than we have now. 5yrs and I recon Rooney will be as good as finished, and lets be honest is he really gonna come and play for us for 80k a week when he could earn double elsewhere.
It's a nice pipe dream, and I certainly do dream. But being realistic if he leaves it will be a big money deal to a PSG or Chelsea. I imagine he'll sign a 4yr deal somewhere leaving us as a maybe in his career choice when he gets to the last year of it at 30-31yrs old.
