They're using the Lukaku and Barkley money before they announce they're going as to avoid clubs rising their prices once they know we got sale money in our pot.

When they sell our best two attacking talents at the end of it and break even you'll be buzzing as you're geordies and have transfers but it will damage Everton for next season.

What Barkley money frænd?

Based on stats we have massively improved our team today with this klaassen signing. We wanted a goal scoring midfielder who can create chances to play in a forward role to stop being so reliant on strikers to score. something we've sorely lacked in the last few years.

The fact we've a) decided we want him, b) bid an amount the selling club was happy with, with no fuss and before pre season c) managed to convince him to come here definitely shows progress to me regardless of spend and who leaves or stays.

It also shows our ambition that we can go to a club like Ajax who have achieved far more in the game than us both domestically and in Europe, and take their 24 year old Captain off them. Obviously Koeman will have helped that but again that shows where we are trying to get to as a club, having a manager with the reputation of Koeman.

Could anyone see us being able to have done this at any point in the last 25 years because I cant.

Whether we are spending the Lukaku money or not shouldn't take away the optimism that Everton are now seen as a credible club that is going places which is why we have also just spent £30m on one of the most highly rated English goalkeepers. We can't dwell on the Lukaku and Barkley situations because it is up to the players and whether any other clubs actually want them for the fees we have attached to them. People should accept that nearly all clubs lose their best players too. Man United with Ronaldo, Liverpool with Suarez, Spurs with Bale. All of them are still in the top 6 and were able to achieve relative or actual success even after losing those players.

Not sure losing Barkley will damage Everton.

What does it matter? They don't want to be here so what can we do? We have tried our best to keep them but they refused big contracts. No other choice but to spend whatever we may get for them and move on rather than sulk. Everton are bigger than them. We do not yet know if we will be worse off without them as previous scenarios such as Lineker and Rooney leaving did not make us suffer at all. All of a sudden it seems a crime to spend the Lukaku money and possible Barkley money.

Lukaku and Barkley may well leave, but there is no way we would be spending this money if we couldn't afford to spend it without their sales. Lukaku in particular is on international duty and therefore is subject to the risk of serious, long term injury. No businessman at the level of Moshiri is going to take a gamble like that.

If the money we are spending was dependent on those players going we would be waiting for the money in the bank before spending it.

As much as I'd like to agree with the sentiment that's wham mate.

And?. Everton a couple of years ago would of sold Lukaku for £50m, Barkley for £20m and put £15m into the transfer window to replace. Of course things have changed, massively.
