About time for a touch of realism I think......

Yakubu: 8M Hope he comes back firing on all cylinders. Might come back overwight and angling for his next move!
Saha: 2M Injury prone
Anichebe: 2M Championship at best
Vaughan: 3M see Anichebe

Cahill: 6M Great for us but getting on and wouldnt be first choice in top four team.
Fellaini: 18M He will be a superstar next season
Arteta: 17M Priceless to us, but can't get a game for Spain!
Pienaar: 15M How I wish he was 22 and not 27.
Neville: 1M Player manager at Wigan?
Osman: 6M Form has dropped as he has played with injuries.
Rodwell: 12M This time next season he'll be worth £20m
Gosling: 3M Apart from THAT goal he doesnt excite me as a great prospect

Hibbert: 3M Hasn't improved with the rest of the team
Yobo: 8M An average Prem defender
Jagielka: 12M A much better than average Prem defender.
Lescott: 18M The only one who I believe could play for top 4 immediately.
Baines: 12M If he continues to improve he should be England's left back before too long

Howard: 4M OK

The greatest strength of this squad is their work ethic and obvious togetherness. Put them in another side and, Lescott aside, I really doubt if they would look so good.

someone must have scored some high quality crack

these prices maybe would have been accurate based on the transfer market 5 seasons ago, back when our transfer record was under 10 million, but times have changed, teams spend a lot more money.

would you really accept a bid for 6 million for tim cahill???? are you out of your mind. i guarantee he would start for any big 4 team, right behind torres as a second striker, he would definitely play ahead of Anderson, he'd play second striker at arsenal with Van Persie, and Chelsea would find a way to fit him in.

baines jagielka lescott arteta pienaar and cahill could all get regular playing time for any big 4 team, fellaini will be in a position to get regular time in a season or two. i think your valuations are way too low for the most part, jagielka was probably the best centre back in the league last season, Rio moved for 33 million years ago before all the inflation, surely jagielka would sell for 20 million at the very least today.

One of the problems with discussions of prices is that it's assumed that the money can then be spent on an equivalent or better player at an advantageous price.

However what about if I sell Yakubu for 13m but I can't buy a striker to get me the same number of goals for less than 18m? Or do I consider 13m is over the odds and there's a glut of midfielders which pushes the price down in an area I need to strengthen? So I sell him to increase the value of the squad overall.

(Is that opportunity cost, TX? My memory of economics is fading...)

Correct.

And especially in this transfer market where you may sell Yakubu for 15M but end up buying a Jo for 17M...is there an improvement there?

I'd say no.

I'd say have something lined up in the back channels before you sell a player.

Yakubu: 15M
Saha: 5M
Anichebe: 4M
Vaughan: 5M

Cahill: 20M
Fellaini: 20M
Arteta: 25M
Pienaar: 9M
Neville: 3M
Osman: 3.5M
Rodwell: 8.5M
Gosling: 8.5M

Hibbert:4M
Yobo: 10M
Jagielka: 20M
Lescott: 25M
Baines: 10M

Howard: 10M

Yakubu: 18M if he comes back healthy next season
Saha: 5M
Anichebe: 4M
Vaughan: 5M

Cahill: 20M
Fellaini: 18M
Arteta: 27M
Pienaar: 15M
Neville: 6M
Osman: 5M
Rodwell: 6M give him a season or two more and he's worth 12-15
Gosling: 5M same as what I said with Rodwell

Hibbert: 5M
Yobo: 12M
Jagielka: 25M
Lescott: 20M
Baines: 15M

Howard: 20M I'm American so I'm a bit biased here

I'd love to agree with you on all of the above, but I really can't see the Sky Four wanting Cahill. I wouldn't sell him for £6m as he's worth a lot more, but I think that is the max we'd raise if there was a fallout for any reason.

Anderson wont be first choice at the Mancs, Arshavin will play the role at Arsenal and would Cahill keep Gerrard out of the redsh**e. Chelsea play 4-3-3 so no way in there.

Utd paid way too much for Ferdinand, and no centreback has approached that fee since. Jagielka was the best centreback last season, and if he is again next season then maybe he'd be worth more. He would also need to go to the world cup to get anywhere approaching £20million.

Id give Saha away if it was up to me.

Gosling i know hes a younglad and will get better but not convinced he will be anything other than a squad player.

Evreryone want to sell our captain for less then 6 mill, most around 3. You are all crazy...

Ill have a crack

Yakubu: £18m
Saha: £4.5m
Anichebe: £3.5m
Vaughan: £8m

Cahill: £25m
Fellaini: £25m
Arteta: £25m
Pienaar: £12m
Neville: £6m
Osman: £3.5m
Rodwell: £8m
Gosling: £8m

Hibbert: £free transfer
Yobo: £8.5m
Jagielka: £20m
Lescott: £20m
Baines: £15m

Howard: £12m

With Cahill to learn from in training, I reckon he will blossom in the next two years. I rate him.

I'm disgusted by some of the posts on here.

Neville and Yobo - any value you put on them is meaningless, as realistically they are going to play out their top flight careers at Everton. Neville has had a great season and become an excellent captain of the team, and anyone who thinks we should part with him for a few bob needs their head examining.

Saha cost us nothing, is still struggling with injuries and fitness, so I doubt we'd ever get a decent fee for him. But thank you Louis for the FA Cup goals !

Hibbert is a decent Premiership defender and gives his all for us every time he plays. I agree that we need to strengthen at RB, but I can think of other Prem clubs who would take him, no need to insult the lad by saying he's worth nothing.

Anyone who thinks we could replace Yakubu for less than £10m is crazy. Even average Prem strikers fetch that much these days.

I could go on ...

I never joke mate.

I clearly dont rate him as highly as you.

Cech cost Chelsea 7m and before he got kicked in the head a few times he was utter class. Howard is sadly not on a par with Cech, so this must be reflected in the price, there arent many really good keepers around so maybe add a bit more on.

Lets say £5.5m

Think Chelsea paid 10M for Cech. Keepers have gone up in value since then plus Cech played in the Chech league so he was unproven. Gordon on Sunderland cost 8M. Howard is prob worth 8-10M.

I cant see why we should get rid of Hibbert. I do agree we need to strengthen in that area of the team, but if we sell him and get a new guy in and hes injured, then we are back to square one with no strength in depth. Hibbert will make an excellent squad player.

As for Howard I really think his contribution to the teams success has been hugely underestimated by some. Like Ive said before, I would take his record this season alone over any of the top four keepers, and many others as well. Have you ever seen him fumble and drop a cross under no pressure what so ever? Just because you play in goal for a top four side, doesn't make you one of the best. Almunia and Valdes are good examples, still good keepers none the less, but easliy found out at times.
