In two places I was right in front of that tackle in the old paddock the noise of the break was horrendous, they were clapped on the pitch before the game and booed off at the end as they were very dirty - their goal was miles offside we equalised from a pen beat the at old Trafford in the replay :p

This 1945 picture shows Everton players, including George Burnett, looking at cots in a Sunderland shop window with their captain Norman Greenhalgh, who had recently become a father. Defender Greenhalgh, who had his career curtailed by World War Two, was with Everton from 1937 to 1949. He was selected to represent England in a wartime international against Scotland in 1939
