....distinctly remember watching that cup run, Jimmy Husband was a star. Games were at Goodison, they played cinema type music over the tannoy and the programme was a single white sheet of paper.

Jeez, small world. I worked with Davids dad when I was an apprentice toolmaker in Speke. A lovely man was Tommy and very kind to me when I was a kid, a gem of a bloke. Poor fella had a very toxic job there as well in the heat treatment room, so toxic he was suffering with the effects then god bless him.

I knew David was doing well and spoke with Tommy about it a lot.
I started playing for the factory team in the Liverpool Shipping league at 16 and although his lad was on the brink of Liverpool's first team squad he used to come to some of our games and heap out praise, I was tickled pink by that.

He took some flak from the blues though when Davy scored against us at anfield lol. Great memories there guys.
That was my first derby over at their place,I got Davy to sign my programme, at least it's something tangible from an awful day for us blues!!:)

My older brother went to that game - bloodbath - Temple got kicked off the pitch - Sandy Brown got studded by Giles in the first minute down his chest.... then immediately punched his lights out = sent off - oh and we lost 1-0 ........
The players were taken off it came close to being abandoned ......

I was there, that Bell should have been sent off but back then under Revis the whole Leeds team were animals.

Well I remember him for ruthlessly hacking down Paul Allen in the 1980 cup final when Allen was just about to become the youngest ever scorer in a final for West Ham. He was probably mid to late 20s then, so guessing he was born in about 1953. (just checked he was born in 1951)
So it could have been him at 14 and OLeary at 8 playing in the Youth cup final then!

I went to every home game in that youth cup they played great football. My older brother took me on the bus with instructions to get me back early school next day - he must have been working for the final overtime - doh
