the black and white photo of Spurs scoring in the 1901 final shows the unusual pitch markings near the goal, there was no four straight sided penalty box and six yard box as there is today, but rather a hockey like semi circle around the goal mouth and a rugby style straight line across the pitch a bit further out.
Amazingly, when the idea of 'penalties' was first introduced there was no need for a penalty box as such because any offence within 12 yards of the goal line was deemed a penalty. (hence the 12 yard line running the width of the pitch) The 18 yard line was indicated by a 'dotted' line. Also the '6 yard box' was shaped more like a pair of boobs.
Great articles here - https://www.football-stadiums.co.uk/articles/football-pitch-markings/ and also here - https://robeastaway.com/blog/six-yard-box#:~:text=This is what the relevant, was allowed to be taken.

I remember sitting there for a league cup game freezing cold , pissing down no roof. I think Ferguson ( not Dunc) scored the winner for us.
A fella from Coventry was trying to sell Coventry shirts outside before the game with " Fergy the flyer" on the back. As he had just been transferred to us he wasn't getting many takers.
