V City 1969.... they got a late goal in a drab game I did not see...but I was there - my older brother who was over 6ft grabbed hold of me, and we ran in to the back of the fans we just bounced straight back onto the aisle the area at the back fans were getting crushed I saw one guy in the aisle get vomit all over him - sod that I thought just sat on a step at the back till 8 minutes from the end as we got over the back of Villa park past the City end to the big Coach car park with minutes to go we heard a roar a coach door was open a driver slumped over his coach wheel - My brother asked they've scored - yep what an awful day..... crushed sick everywhere My brother still had his tickets in his pocket 15 minutes late set off in good time on the Home James doh -
iirc, the trick getting to Villa was Don't follow the posted signs to Villa Park off the M6, drive past and take the next next turn off to WBA and circle up behind it.

We were stuck in the trsficc jam way outside Birmingham on the M6 the coach driver let us off about five minute walk from the ground and told everyone timnotevhis reg plste, plus where he would be after the game on the coach car park at the far end where the city fans congregated innthst then open end......

Remember my dad saying he had to park at Fort Dunlop that day off the motorway and took buses to villa park,he got in just before half timelol

The Blues fans raved about Royston Vernon so fast over 12 yards with his combination with the GV they were a deadly duo in the 1963 Championship team - also if Royston had not been a chain smoker as great as he was he could have been at the very top of the players he list in this article photo - here he is in his famous trait of scoring taking the ball around a keeper to slot in famous for it -

That's one of the iconic pix on an iconic day in May 63 when Roy and the boys brought home the bacon. That's Tony Macedo flat on his face, a decent keeper, but no match for the dancing magician ;)

It was awful traffic jam maybe a road accident - TBH I got there 15 minutes late never seen the game as explained - Malcolm Allison had Bally man marked plus HK got a bad knock early on - it was a drab game by all accounts - then a fatal goal in the last minutes Everton that -
I was fuming all that travel never to see the game thousands of blues without tickets got in the Holt end though free..... could have been another Hillsborough TBH.....

Well done ,mate.
I don't think I saw him play as he signed when gates were high and being a kid my late father stopped me going ....I did go that season to the early games, but as the title loomed the gates got bigger - I asked about him Chico ....... My late Father & older brother wondered why we had signed him as his first corner he kicked the corner flag instead of the ball ... but he soon settled in a lightning fast right-winger who produced so many goals for us - he was sold to us as Rangers had a young winger named Willie Johnson who became iconic for them....
Chico was on his way to sign for Spurs - when the Catt joined the train to sign him - Spurs were fuming lol our main rivals for the title too......1963.....
