Old Photos Of Where You Live

Wavertree Botanic Liverpool Cooperation council glasshouse gardens - Bombed in the 2nd world war then moved to Calderstones park & bombed by Derek Hatton ... because the growers would not support a one-day strike which afterwards they won their court case & he had it demolished on his grounds of his authority -

It was a jewel in the crown of Liverpool's parks orchid collections, & plant collections from all over the world -

Hatton...wrong thread but dont get me started.

Baths are on the right-hand side here, with a small part of the fascia still visible today, and to the left you go 'under the bridge' into Mud Men territory.

Fortunately, Garston Village is slowly coming to life again after years of being left to become derelict.

….I wondered if those kids were queueing for the baths but they don’t seem to have bags with them. WW2 likely to be a big part of life for those youngsters.

It's the correct thread as he was responsible for destroying a heritage feature of a Botanic gardens too costly to replace over a one-day strike, the growers won their court case, but could not return to work .....as he destroyed it claiming H&S wise it was not safe which was not the case......
It was a graded building .... you paid to enter - the plants were moved to the main corporation Nursery in Allerton where they never had the room or skill to look after rare collections of plants from all over the world not open to the public - to remove a feature of this calibre was a disgrace - as the photos I posted show - I went there many times as a student Horticulturist & still have a large coloured brochure about the set-up. It was also an education centre where practical exams were taken in Horticulture .....

It was in the centre of Calderstones park - I worked in the industry for another Local Authority - & visited professionally & as a customer many times ...
