Old Photos Of Where You Live

These images offer a glimpse into a part of Huyton's past and what life used to be like in some areas of the Knowsley town.

Huyton Quarry is known to have expanded and changed rapidly due to industrial development in the 19th century.

A great deal of quarrying took place, as well as coal mining - and over time the area was even associated with an iron works, gas works, a blue works and an electric lamp works.

But at the junction of West View and Hale View Road, Huyton Quarry, stood a square full of cottages until the early 1930's, known as the Townfield Cottages.

The residents living there were likely to have been employed locally, working as mineworkers, ironworkers or at Prescot's wireworks.
