Transfer Rumour Olivier Giroud

So you want to spend 100m on 1 player? I mean, lets assume he even knows what an Everton is.

If that's what it takes to replace his goals yes.

If it gets wasted on mediocre players who don't score as many then what's the point. For me if you have to sell your best then replace with the best. I'd much rather spend it all on Icardi than bring in a couple of average strikers

That's not what he's saying - he's saying Rom is our primary source of goals because he doesn't involve the team in the attacking phase.

So either he scores, or nobody does, because he has no interest and/or ability in getting supporting players involved.

Ah yes, those supporting players that are 25 yards behind him half the time...there's a reason Walsh and Koeman are making or trying to make certain signings.

your anti-rom obsession has reached fever pitch now you have a bit of support given his transfer situation, you were very very quiet on the matter when he was banging them in mid season, this argument is absolute bilge, and deep down you know it, but you've pitched your tent and will saty the course, and in a way I admire that

I wasn't quiet at all! I've praised him consistently when he's deserved it (Bournemouth etc.) but the facts remain facts - he isn't a player who has any interest in holding up a ball and getting the team forward. He wants to sit on the shoulder and counter/run defenders, whilst throwing his arms up and demanding players work around him when we are in the attacking third.

He enters "beast mode" once every ten games or so, other than that he's basically anonymous and plays on his own whilst his other ten 'teammates' hope he conjures something out of nothing, because they can't get a foothold on the game in the final third because of ol' ping pong shins.

There are plenty of observers who see the same thing as me, including many pundits who have openly said the exact reasons I give as to why he'd probably flop at a Chelsea or United.

He is not a good footballer; he is, however, a sensational goalscorer - that isn't good enough for the elite level. Indeed, my view is he isn't even good enough for the level we're at, because he is far too limiting on what you can do as a team.

Giroud would be a massive improvement for us instantly; a complete forward who is technically sound, fantastic in the air, moves intelligently and has good distribution.

If your saying as a second choice then maybe yes. His age isn't the best though

In terms of replacing Rom. No way. The 90m we get or there abouts for Lukaku can't be wasted. I'd invest it all in one player for the right player. Personally I'd like Icardi here and I've seen figures of 40/45m for him. Well within our range

I'd be astounded if we spent 90m on one player. I'd also be astounded if we get 90m for Rom in the end. Think it'll be nearer the 70m mark if/when he goes.
Reason for not believing we'd spend 90m on one player is more down to the level of player "worth" 90m sadly isn't going to come to us... yet(?!)

Tell me mate, how are the midfielders supposed to get up the pitch and support reliably when...

1- There's no outball to stick it to in the first place because of a lack of movement in the final third.
2- Doing so will leave us open to a counter attack because the ball ricochets off a technically unsound striker over and over again.

I doubt we'd ever spend that on someone we aren't that ambitious. I do think icardi could be bought for under 50m though. It will all depend if he wanted to come.

I'd be disappointed if we got less than 90m for Lukaku when there's quotes for Kane of above 100m, Kyle Walker around 60m and Pogba went for 86m. Prices in football these days are a joke sadly

What happens if Icardi is mediocre in the Prem after we spend £100m meeting his release clause ??

These, Rafael, like the rest of your argument are not facts, they are your opinion, quoting a load of whoppers and kopites won't change that

Haha Lukaku isn't good enough for us but Giroud is haha.. And somehow Lukaku caused knowone else to get above about 6 goals last season as its either he scores or knowone else does according to @Tubey

Out of interest if hes not good enough for 7th placed Everton, who do you think hes good enough for? Stoke, West Brom, Brighton???

Tell me why we looked 1000X more dangerous with Valencia and, apart from Ross, who was loitering back with Gana and Schneiderlin more than trying to be an outlet, was any sort of honest goal threat? We were criminally one-dimensional after Bolasie got injured and it showed.

That's a risk you take with every player

What I do know is and we have seen it here time and time again ( last season with Steklenberg ) that if you try and replace players on the cheap you more often than not fail.

If we sell lukaku we have to be seen going for the best. Giroud isn't

If we stick to our guns and 100m he is going nowhere as nobody will pay the money being asked. Full season of him with better players around him and who knows !

Yeah OK our £!00m goalkeeper Steklenberg .......Go to bed mate !

In fairness Rom's inabilities are pretty clear, his control really does let him down quite often. One of the comments earlier was about it not being Rom's fault that none of his team mates are within 25m of him... well, surely part of his job when we're under pressure is to get the ball to him, he then HOLDS ONTO THE BALL, giving the midfield the chance to get up and support him.
Our current failings are not all down to him at all, but his lacking in that department is pretty clear to see. It's why a large amount of pundits when asked the question last season would by and large pick Kane (for example) before Rom
