Transfer Rumour Olivier Giroud

Haha Lukaku isn't good enough for us but Giroud is haha.. And somehow Lukaku caused knowone else to get above about 6 goals last season as its either he scores or knowone else does according to @Tubey

Out of interest if hes not good enough for 7th placed Everton, who do you think hes good enough for? Stoke, West Brom, Brighton???

Giroud is comfortably a better striker than Lukaku. Lukaku is a better goalscorer and is quicker in a straight line, but Giroud is better at quite literally every other aspect of the game.

Not even sure how that is a controversial statement?

Lukaku is good enough for any side looking to play swift counter-attacking football. He's the perfect striker for it. So he's "good enough" for anyone playing that way - that would include Barcelona if they suddenly decided to do that.

However, we don't set up to play that way, neither do Chelsea or any other top club in England or Spain, therefore he'd be a square peg in a round hole.

That's why Giroud would improve us - he'd be perfect for the way we set up to play, and especially great for the development of a young box-to-box player named Davies and an inside forward in Lookman.

I'd prefer Lukaku upfront for us than Giroud every single week

And we didn't want to play that way because we couldn't, over the course of a season, because of personnel and injuries. Koeman mentioned a few times about getting better defensively because of last season, which I think contributed to us being so far back at times. And I don't agree he wants to set up to play that way, hence why we're after certain players.

I want icardi here as much as anyone but it's jeopardising the club spending 100m on a potential failure. Imo we should be looking at half that as our max in this market.

Wouldn't mind having both for the different options we'd have of how we could set up to play. Rom if we're set up more to counter, Giroud if we want to keep hold of the ball and build up more progressively and bring in pacey players either side of him

Loads of strikers we've been linked with or people have mentioned would be sound as back up so we can play a different way vs certain teams or try something different late in the game.. But to replace Lukaku then its a NO

I wouldn't, and I've thought so for a very long time.

Giroud makes everyone around him better; Lukaku makes everyone around him worse. That's not even a criticism; it is simply a statement based on how they play, because Giroud is the well-oiled cog in the machine, whereas Lukaku is a single-minded goal-getter outside the machine. One works for the team, the other needs the team to work to him.

It's what you prefer, and I know what I personally prefer.

It's a tricky one for sure ...but I agree with @Tubey that Giroud would be a better fit for Everton at this moment in time > Rom could turn out to be fabulous but his heart is not with Everton and that is not good for the team .

You're making Giroud out to be so much better than he actually he is In my opinion.

Scoring goals is a very hard part of football and Lukaku basically guarantees you goals, he did get 6 assists aswell by the way

I think there was a post on here that showed that goal per minute , Giroud was ahead of Lukaku .........but that's not the point. It's about what a player brings to the team as a whole . Lineker scored loads of goals but Everton won titles without him!

Giroud started 11 games last season, off the bench for 18 - still managed 12 goals.

Not shabby. Averages 14.5 a season over last 5 seasons, Lukaku averages 17.

Not that big a difference, and that's just goals - when you compare what he offers other than that, I don't think I'm overrating Giroud at all. I personally think people massively underrate him.

I don't want to see us spending to much on a 30 year old TBH. I like our youngster model.

I know people think we have unlimited money well we don't and our competitors have more so we need to buy smart !

It'd be around £20-25m, which is nothing these days for a proven striker. He's only 30 and doesn't rely on pace at all; he's got another three years easy at this level.

Don't think we'll be in for him and actually think West Ham will grab him due to the London factor on this one, but it'll be a hell of a signing for them.

But we've been buying youngsters, so you need a older head to lead the line .
