Transfer Rumour Olivier Giroud

He was prepared to stay at Arsenal until the Lacazette rumours started. Arsenal are in the same European competition as us.

He was/is happy at Arsenal (maybe even as a squad player) if he decides to move on, he will (IMO) be looking for a champions league club because there will be a few takers, and he's 31 soon.

Also, just because Arsenal are in the Europa league doesn't mean he would be happy to join us because we're in it.

I didn't think you'd take it so simplistic. If we improve as a squad that's just as important as solely improving on 2 key players.

For me anyway.

Not when you're miles off the top four, and comfortably better than the rest beneath you no.

We finished 7th.
We still finished 7th if you remove all Lukaku's goals.

Saying "Rooney and Giroud is not as good as Barkley and Lukaku" but bringing Kone and Valencia into the equation is bonkers to me - I just don't see the correlation.

I get the improve squad argument, but that inevitably happens when you improve the starting 11...

Lets improve the starting 11, and forget about Arouna Kone and his 72 minutes of league football last season.

Which I think will/are doing. Remember I agree that Barkley and Lukaku is better than Rooney and Giroud. Maybe it's just better to see who else arrives as I don't believe they are their direct replacements.

Rooney and Giroud aren't coming here to be squad players though Andy, they're not replacements for Kone and Valencia.

If you accept Lukaku/Barkley is better than Rooney/Giroud, you can't leverage Kone and Valencia as the counter.

Yeah fair point, but replacing say Lukaku with Giroud as a first team starter will mean the team most likely will set up to play differently. Just looking at it from a sum of all parts point of view.

How many times last season when Rom wasn't getting it done did we stick with him because of our lack of options. with a player like Olivier Giroud
we would have better options, and not cost us points. With the players we have brought in and our young lads gaining experience from the likes of Rooney and Ollie we will be in a far better position than last season.

We definitely will, and it's arguably a positive to Lukaku leaving. We finished 4th with Marcus Bent leading the line...

Koeman signed Long at Southampton - I think he prefers a more combative front line, with pressing and energy.

On occasion when we need a hold up/target man - he had Pelle/want a Giroud.

Think we'll bring in £40/£50m striker after Rom sods off anyway.

Agree with this, although I wouldn't be against seeing some of the money going towards a partner for Michael Keane.

I think we are yet to see a proper Koeman team - didn't really stamp his on mark on the squad in the last two transfer windows for whatever reasons, last seasons team was almost a case of making do with what was there already? Relying heavily on Lukaku because there was no one else.
Giroud fits Koemans visions I think.

Well I replying to a post which stated Giroud wanting CL footy. He's not getting that at Arsenal next season. So that's that out of the window already.

I also expected you to read between the lines to the fact I see Arsenal/Everton to be competing on a similar level now and certainly next season. Despite the signing of Lacazette, Arsenal are not title challengers. Top 4 contenders yes. As are we in my opinion.

So why wouldn't Giroud swap Arsenal for Everton?

I think if we sign Rooney and he plays behind the striker next season as many times as Ross played there this season he will score more goals and get more assists then Ross did.

I also think that if Giroud has as many chances as Lukaku got this season he will score at least the same amount of goals as Lukaku.

With the kind of money we are throwing around we can afford short term fixes to holes in the squad. Look at United taking Zlatan for a year. Nobody cried about it not being his prime years or him not being a long term solution, he came in scored goals and then left.

Very optimistic. Giroud and Rooney are a real downgrade on what we had in my opinion. I mean, for Rooney to even get games for us he needs to turn around 18 months worth of form that has left so much to be desired.

I actually like Giroud but I don't think he's as good a goalscorer as Lukaku.

But Pickford, Keane, Klaassen and Sandro have upgraded four other positions in the line-up so overall the squad has improved.

Probably is a bit optimistic, but I feel like Rooney will be a different player when he gives a damn again and Giroud scored at a better rate than Rom last season whilst not playing in a team set up specifically for him to score in.
