On This Day;

Should have put this up yesterday;
October 1; On this day in 1966 I saw my first live Football league match, Aldershot 4 Rochdale 0 in the old Div 4.
Since then - 203 teams ( league, non league, European and international) on 140 grounds.
Mrs Whittle is a very understanding woman.😊
Worthy of its own thread.
I genuinely can't remember my first match.
Nothing to do with old age.
The people who took me as a nipper are long gone.
Although I remember being at games when I was very young.
Brian Labones testimonial was one.
A 1st home game v leicester finishing 1-1.
I have very vivid memories of sitting in the bullens playing a team leeds or what was a white ,white ,yellow combo.
My sons 1st game was Shearers 1st Newcastle appearance, 2_0 us.

Both my sons first games were Palace v Everton games. A 1-0 defeat for the Evertonian at Selhurst in October 1994 but a win for the Palace fan in 1991 at the ZDS Cup Final at Wembley.
My Grandson's introduction to all things Blue was the recent home game with Bournemouth. He doesn't talk about it much.

On this day (well, tomorrow actually) 5th October 1968. My first trip to Selhurst Park. We lived 35 miles away which might as well have been the moon for a 12 year old in those days. Anyhow, went with a mate and his Dad.
Palace 1 Sheffield United 1. Stood on the old grass bank at the top of the Whitehorse Lane terrace. The Arthur Waite stand was under construction and the main stand still had a standing paddock at the front for the full length of the pitch.
A beautiful early autumn day. Like it was yesterday not 56 years!
