Yeah, apparently Real Madrid has been doing it quite bit with their academy players as well. Unlike a loan, where you are pretty sure the player is going back so you might not want to invest too much effort if the first couple of months are ropey, this way incentives the buying team to work through any teething problems. Also encourages the player as no "easy" way back to the original club.

Not as financially lucrative as the way Chelsea farm out their players but probably better for the development of the players themselves.

It's very interesting. I wonder if Chelsea would have paid let's say 10 mil to buy Rom back after he scored 20 last season. Could save them loads of money, maybe. De Bruyne would be another interesting one.

The De Bruyne one is particularly intersting as this type of deal would have allowed them to block his transfer to their title rivals. Chelsea got 18m plus a sell on of Wolfsburg's profit but if he is very good for City that money might not be much consolation to losing out on the league title...
 
Yann M'Vila is looking like a cracking signing for us so is Lens 1 goal and 3 assists already for him just a shame Short won't give DA proper funds to go out and get the players HE wants

Tbf, we need at least 3 clubs to be worse than us so personally I am pleased that Short has long pockets and, er, short arms
 

Sky are reporting that Sheff Wed have had a £10M offer declined by Fulham for McCormack....Sheff Wed, 10 Mil, get the cheque book out Bill!!!!

Looks like they're spending the KDB money in other ways, they've agreed a £10m deal for Denis Praet from Anderlecht and apparently Juve are livid because they had Draxler's word that he would join them and looks like he is signing for Wolfsburg.

Praet and Draxler 2 good young signings for Wolfsburg.
