Only £3m of which they pocket now

They could have sold him for £30m outright to another club

It's creative accounting. Brentford still basically have £30mill to spend which will offset by when they get the money next season. They don't lose out and it helps Arsenal push the payment a year for FFP.

They already had a £30mill deal agreed but it changed overnight to this farce to help Arsenal out. Brentford extended his contract by a year too to "guarantee" the fee.

Win win for both. And goes to show whoever has the best accountants and connections get round these rules.

So it's a clear violation/bending of FFP rules in plain sight?

Remember when we could just enjoy watching football matches instead of masquerading as amateur accountants?

Don't have to be an amateur accountant to see how a £30mill deal turns into a £3mill loan overnight.

It's excessive for a back up goalkeeper so why not make it look better financially

For all Chelseas signings, they look light at CM. Assuming its Lavia and Caicedo? RS could be punished for messing about?

They want £50m - Chelsea offer £48m + add ons?
Just offer the £50m and get it sorted. Some clubs actions baffle me.

Same with Caceido. Just buy him if you want him that much.

They’re not like us where we’re having to be extra careful with what we spend.

Welcome to sports in America. The purpose of this sort of rule is to guarantee profits for club owners over time, because the appreciation of the club's value outpaces whatever is spent to stay competitive.

We've been dealing with this sort of nonsense for a generation. Do enjoy your stay with us.
