Southampton are planning to appoint Claude Puel as their new manager this week.

The club explored a series of options following Ronald Koeman’s decision to join Everton, including Manuel Pellegrini, Rudi Garcia, Vitor Pereira and Bournemouth's Eddie Howe, but Puel is now clear at the top of their shortlist following positive talks over the past week.Puel spent 17 seasons as a one-club player at Monaco, where he was mentored by Arsene Wenger and eventually asked to coach the youth team, but has never worked outside of France in a managerial career that also now spans 17 years.

He previously won the French league title at Monaco, reached the Champions League semi-final with Lyon and helped develop Eden Hazard at Lille. In talks with Southampton, he has outlined a desire to stay in the long-term following three changes of manager since 2013. The deal is not yet done but, barring any late changes, Puel’s appointment on a likely three-year contract will be confirmed in the coming days.

Honesty never ever heard of him but my mate says he's the tits. He would they as they're all still hurting so bad.

£30m fee agreed with Southampton for Mane to Liverpool. £91m in three years that Liverpool have spent on Southampton players.

Lallana £25m
Lovren £20m
Lambert £4m
Clyne £12m
Mane £30m

seriously soton? i understand the players before that they sold to them, but they could have milked the RS for another £10m for sure?
Koeman, wanyama and mane gone before july. i'd give up.

What the hell is wrong with Southampton? Where is the ambition?

And the fans had the bare faced cheek to call Koeman a snake for leaving! Why the hell should he have stuck around to see his squad ripped apart yet again?

He more than likely knew it was going to be the familiar Saints summer fire sale.

Every club buys and sells, but the amount of players they've sold in recent seasons with what looks like very little resistance is shocking.
