He's probably something like 8th in the order. Off the top of my head Varane Umtiti Laporte Hernandez Kimpempe and Zouma are all easily better.

Neither does Diop. Add to my list Lenglet, Adil Rami and even Mamadou Sakho who was called up in March. It doesn't mean Dechamps is right but he currently rates Diop pretty low. 45m is an outrageous price for a pretty meh player.

I meant neither does he feature for France like Laporte doesn't. Height is the only thing on your list that he definitely is good at. Leadership is kind of tough to judge and positioning is fine but he isn't Maldini or even Jagielka.

Well id say Deschamps hasnt got a scooby due if hes not playing Diop or Laporte over some others who hes picked in the past couple of seasons.

Diop was captain of France youth + Toulouse.
