Crap that it's us but he definitely exaggerated to try and get the penalty and that's cheating. I personally don't think that contact was enough to knock him over.

The game needs action like this really.

The next issue is how to ensure consistency from referees and change the culture in refereeing whereby they don't need to always see a player go over before giving a foul or penalty.

How do they decide on what is reviewed?

He made it look worst than it was,but there was contact-that should be the end of it,a dive to me is falling over with no contact, didnt help with MOTD etc going overboard with ex players going on about it,fa probably felt they had to do something or they would be getting moaned about again etc

Good points.

So what the FA seemingly are saying is:

Had Niasse only been jarred back and not gone down, the penalty wouldn't have been given?

Exactly. A 'dive' is simulating contact, which clearly didn't apply to Niasse.

If the charge was applied for the fact that the 'theatrical' fall is what caused the ref to give the penalty then that, in many ways, is an even bigger joke. When would referees ever have to be accountable for their decisions then?!

Well they don't say charged for diving so I don't think a definition of that is needed. They say he is charged for "Successful Deception of a Match Official" which considering he goes to ground under what looks like barely any contact seems to be bang on.

Although it is very difficult to be 100% sure on any cases apart from the diving with no contact.

Don't think anyone can deny he goes down when there isn't enough contact to make him go down, it's all about consistency though mate, there have been plenty of incidents this season of players dropping with minimal contact, and nothing has been done, saying that though, considering the worst ones have been from Spurs, Man City players (twice) shows how this new thing is going to pan out.
Lou I agree mate, but I hate diving more than anything in the game, it’s embarrassing that grown men throw themselves to ground like that.

A little tap on the shoulder is contact.

It's not enough to make you fall over though, even if running at full tilt.

So basically its not as simple as "there was contact"
