Let me just make one thing clear to absolutely everyone on GOT.

If you thought VDM was a "drain on club resources" at 30k a week, just you wait till we sign Owen at 50k a week.

"Drain on club resources" wouldn't even scratch the surface.

No chance of Owen coming here. None. And thank goodness.

Hmm if we have gotten rid of VDM and Valente, their wages will pay for Owens. Now both Valente and VDM didnt do anything last season, or the season before that, and im quite confident that Owen could actually make a slight difference.

So theres nothing to lose in getting him.

Apart from when he said he wanted to finish his career at Everton................................ :dodgy:

Hold on...yes...I can see it. Barely. It's a bit foggy but it's getting clear.

Yes, it's October and we've signed Owen.

Yes, we've signed Owen and the Everton supporters are going ape [Poor language removed] because he's scored one goal in ten matches and have wondered why we signed him on 50k a week.

Some are saying that he's just not getting the service from the midfield while others are moaning that we're paying him that much to sit behind Yakubu and a fit Saha in the pecking order and that he's just an expensive squad player.

Save the 50k on for the wages of a player that we'll bring in and will actually contribute.

To be fair Moyes would actually use Michael Owen alot more than he ever used Andy Van der Meyde, I'm sure of that.

He'd certainly contribute far more than Van der Meyde, simply because Moyes would let him.

I would like to see Everton go above and beyond next season. I'd love to see them compound upon what they've done this season - and restore a reverence for the club equal to that of the english big four.

It's a nice dream - and I don't see Michael Owen doing anything but delaying it's fruition for another season.

I'll eat my words if I'm proven wrong - but all I can see Owen doing is preventing us from reaching our potential.

If he was a flop, he would be dropped.

You make it sound as if we would play him, scoring or not.

No individual player will stop us reaching our potential. No one player will help us reach our potential either.

ageing strikers do not a top 4 side make.

if we must poach from the barcodes go for martins.

i seem to remember owen making 'i'll never play for everton' type noises after being winded and dined into the world of mighty newcastle..?

hope this one is just rumour mill fodder.

Thank you! Remember he spurned us for the BARCODES, it wasn't as if AC Milan was calling.

How many appearances will Moyes give him before he decides he's had enough?

How many points will slip away from reach in that time?

And how many points were we from Arsenal this season?

Every match is vital if we want to crack that top four. Owen's potential at EFC is at best to be the next season's Jo.

You think he is going to stay fit for that many matches? I dont share your optimism mate!(y)

Owen started 21 matches last season and scored 8 goals. And he is pretty much the best possible striker we could sign on a free. The problem is that any Championship striker Moyes might be interested in would cost 5 million, so either it's freebies, loans or some unknown foreigner. Getting a good striker on loan is no easy task (and they are usually not free, the owning club gets a fee for the loan), quality freebies are few and far between and will ask big money and foreigners are total gambles.

So, if Moyes thinks Owen is worth the gamble, so be it. I'm not in a position to question his judgement, but I understand why he would take this gamble. A fit Owen would score 15+ goals.

Liverpool should re-sign Owen - Gerrard - Shields Gazette

STEVEN Gerrard wants Liverpool to make a move for Michael Owen – but Merseyside rivals Everton remain favourites to snap up the Newcastle United captain.

"If I was a scout or a manager, I would give Michael a ring," said Gerrard.

I'm a big fan and a good friend of his, and I would love to see him get a move from Newcastle to a big club and get his England career back on track.
