Here's my take.
Didn't mind Pardew but he'd lost the players. They weren't buying in to what he was trying to do and his back room team is not Premier League standard.
Don't particularly want Allardyce but I don't particularly want my teeth filled either. He is a necessity and, with the squad we have, we should be ok. Effectively we have not progressed one iota since the day Pulis quit. (But what people forget is that for us, that is a pretty good place.)
What we should do NOW is start thinking about life post Fireman Sam. We need a promising young Manager with experience and imagination who we invest time and patience in. Only that will stop the never ending cycle of madness that we seem to have.

The morals part- I thought the second bit was a given!

He isnt a duff manager though. Worked wonders with Bolton, think they sacked him cos they were 10th. Got West Ham up, and kept them up, kept Sunderland up, was appointed an England manager.

Would I want him here? Not in a million years. But he has a steady record of doing what his Chairman asks him to do.

Exactly. As @Alan Whittle mentioned (a Palace fan), it's not a spectacular appointment yet in the short term it's arguably the most sensible.

Sign a relatively short contract, settle the ship, keep them up and then they'll look for a more progressive manager who can utilise their squad.

It's not the ideal appointment and I'm sure they'll have to sacrifice their more expansive style in the short term, but it's better than relegation.

You don't have to like Big Sam and his style, although sometimes I do think he gets an overly rough ride, to realise that he can fill the void.

Fair point but I think he's past his sell by date.
