….i wonder if they take into account how much athletes can earn competing in their sports. The top athletes have Diamond League and appearance money, I expect Keely Hodgkinson has just become a very wealthy woman.

FWIW, Hodgkinson formed her own company last year and latest accounts show a figure of £400,000.

Correct. That should be factored into lottery funding receipts. But I think they just hand a lump sum cycling and track and field and so on.

But yeah, Hodgkinson will make a fortune off commercial contracts so shouldn't get near any funding.

Direct athlete funding comes in the shape of an Athlete Performance Award (APA). This award, which is solely funded by National Lottery income, is paid directly to the athletes and contributes to their living and sporting costs. APAs are administered centrally by UK Sport and are aimed at enabling athletes to pursue medal success in the Olympic or Paralympic Games and in other major championship events. APA funding is designed to enable athletes to fully engage in a sport’s high-performance programme and meet the demands associated with progression towards the Olympic and Paralympic podium.
APAs are not designed to support athletes that could be considered professional.

Incredible performance from her and a sprint finish to boot. It also puts into perspective how stunning Emil Zatopek was as he won all three in the same Olympics.

…I noticed in one of her post-race interviews they asked where she’ll be keeping her medal and she indicated she’d be buying a new home in the next couple of months.

….gold medals are so hard to come by at Olympic level, so many of the silvers were by the smallest of margins.

Enjoyed what I have seen, esp the athletics. Been some great performances from team GB to be fair. Best for me was KJT in the heptahlon. To push Thiam to the limit in 7 events and to see her having to sprint in the 800 to get her gold, takes some doing. To come away with a silver medal, she should be very proud of herself. . KH up there as well. Maybe not the medal haul we wanted, but some great performances.

There's some very debatable inclusions for 'potential' podium athletes there.

And I cant understand the heavily skewed attention toward relay athletes.

Yes, they get silver / bronze a lot, but golds are about as rare as rocking horse turds.
