Transfer Rumour Philippe Coutinho

Yeah. Personally think we need a right back, another ball winner, and a effective attacking wide player to replace Iwobi.

We'll be pretty solid then
We won't sign another ball winner as Carlo wants to give Gbamin a chance, he has already said this. Any midfielder signed has to be someone who can bring the ball forward or create more. We simply have nothing when James does'nt contribute or is injured.

He was an absolute demon on the counter attack for Big Red. Whether his injuries have slowed him down I’m not sure, but I reckon he’d still be in our top 3 quickest players.
Ageed, there's some absolute pony of the highest order being spoken in this thread mate.

He actually isn’t slow.

There’s your answer Mike

and let’s be brutally honest here. At the RS he had numerous mobile players, breaking lines and creating space which he exploited very effectively.

I’m sure we’ll look pretty though passing it between James Gylfi and Pip

not true. Doucoure and Allan both have that. We have quite a lot of pace and mobility in the tam. What we lack is quality

....agree with Doucoure but you see how much the team struggles when he’s missing. I don’t consider Allan in the same category of athleticism, although Gbamin will help.

For me, Coutinho is in the Rodriguez & Sigurdsson bracket. If one of those leaves, then perhaps he could be utilised but I see priorities elsewhere. Ancelotti has talked about wanting players who can counter-attack, surely pace and quality in wide areas and players who can transition defence into attack is what we need.

We had an issue with Walsh bringing players in rather than bringing players in that we need and who fit the playing strategy.

According to here he's finished or he's Linford Christie. I can't recall him being known for pace. I do think like hamez he instantly improves us and walks into a team that regularly plays Alex Iwobi, gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies.

His profile can only be good for the club too. Can't see it happening for obvious reasons RS connection etc. Be funky if it does though.

Maybe being with James can bring the best out of both of them.

Top skilled players usually motivate each other.

Unless a player is Mbappe they aint ever good enough for Everton

Replacing Bernard with Coutinho - good business in my eyes.
Oh i don't want us to sign Coutinho by any stretch mate, aside from the RS he has had a very mixed career and his injury record is as bad as James. I just think that if we did the people who are saying he would'nt do anything are wrong and i also think you could fit him and James in the same system. We should really be looking at a younger option though imo.

Or, you know, it could be that he isn't at all what is needed, on enormous wages, and slow. Oh, also no idea if he could play in the league again since he is now 29 and he wasn't that good when he was here either.

In the first half of the season before he moved to barca he scored 12 goals and got 8 assist in 20 games in all competitions.

He played 201 games for Liverpool and and scored 65 goals and got 42 assists. In his career hes played 196 games as a left winger scoring 65 goals and 42 assists and as a cam hes played 139 games scoring 27 and assists 29. Even at bayern he played 39 games scoring 11 and getting 9 assists.

Let's not chat wham by pretending he hasnt been a excellent player.

I think the main issue with him going to barca was they expected him to be iniestas replacement. Which he obviously isn't. So instead of playing to his strengths they tried to shoehorn him into a role that didn't fit him. Then when it didn't fit him the fans turned on him and wanted him out. What surprises me is hes actually got just under a 1 in 3 goal involvement at barca which is pretty good for someone who isn't getting alot of time 5,620 minutes (62.4 full games) even this season he's had 3 goals and 2 assists in 792 minutes (8.8 full games). So his goal involvement to minutes ratio is pretty good I think.

I think hed be a good signing for us and it would make sense with the south Americas that all live in the North West and its a city where hes comfortable. It would also mean we could rest james and have a replacement that isnt sigurdsson.

He would be a nice cherry on the top of a good transfer window but he shouldn't be a main target. There are other areas on the pitch that are in dire need of filling before we could even think of buying the lad.

Sounds paper talk to me we are always linked with him. Would deffo have him though think its more pace in the midfield and RB we need - I imagine Coutinho would play out at RW drifting in with James interchanging in the middle.

The priority is bringing in pacey cover for Doucoure and Allan as our midfield options are shockingly poor and I dont think Gbamin will ever play regulary blokes made of glass.
