I agree.

But the idea of pricing Spurs out of a move so that we can then sign the lad on a free next summer makes no sense
If we don’t fix our midfield we won’t be signing anyone next summer, we will be having our own fire sale.

I agree in principle, and would be surprised if he chose us over Spurs, all other things being equal currently.

I think a player is far more inclined to make their views known, but they are constrained by their agents usually. It suits them to rule nothing out and they need at least two interested clubs so they can leverage one over the other.

Something needs to be done about agents

They genuinely have too much power at this stage and it's ruining the game

No it's a not believing everything I read on the internet mechanism. It doesn't mean it isn't happening but I'd also appreciate an actual source saying Spurs have actually bid, if there is one.

As I said, neither have I but that doesn't mean that Spurs aren't sitting in the wings having a word in he's ear though. None of us know and the best way to try and do a transfer is quietly (although it could be Southampton who are putting it all out there?)

Well that's sort of what my question is. The scenario could be Spurs and Everton battling or it could be Saints getting a low ball from Everton and trying to manufacture a market.

Thinking back to the Mina transfer we basically spent the whole time hearing how United were going to bid. But they never did and tbh I still don't know for sure if they were ever really in it or if Barca were throwing it out hoping to make more money.

I think we very often appointed good managers but appointed them at the wrong time.
RM and MS may have been successful if they had more experience of working at big clubs where the level of expectation was slightly lower than at Everton.
I would guess RM would be a better manager now than when we sacked him.

If you have an ambitious club, an ambitious owner, a big transfer budget... then in my opinion you need a big manager.

The game has changed so much that I think a young Howard Kendall would not be given the time and space to do what he did.

Martinez is tactically poor and relies on the talents of his players. Unless we were going to pull out a bunch of world class guys he would still struggle.
