We were 3 at the back last night, but Long (right sided centre back) got injured after 5 minutes.

Mills came on and the right wing back (Stevens) went to right back in a back 4, so Mills was playing right wing.

He did well all night, worked very hard, covered ground really well and beat his man a few times. We squandered quite a few chances, especially in the first half but our front 4 all worked really well together and he was a good part of that.

It was a clanger from their keeper for our second but I think Mills has tried to claim it, this was after the Lincoln left back had given him way too much room and he breezed away from him.

Mills also reacted very well to turn one over the bar after our keeper had made a bit of a cock up trying to punch something he should've caught. All featured in the highlights below:

How is Kyle Edwards getting on?

Cheers for that , definitely a shot from young Stanley, I’d give him that goal 😉

Thanks again for your updates. Just to explain the comments about him playing right back.. it's been a problem position for our first team for a while and Mills played well at wing back in a few games for the U21s last season. Some are hoping he could be a solution. Personally, I seem him more as a Dyche style right midfielder but obviously he would need to continue developing. Seems like Manning is managing his opportunities well. Hopefully he can take his chances and cement a first team place with you as the season goes on.

He was tried there, but I didn't think he looked comfortable at all, got beat numerous times and would be wasted there.

Same as you I think he'll be an attacking right midfielder, good stamina and a bit of pace to beat a man. He was scoring a lot of goals for the u21s too, so that shows he has that about him.

How is Kyle Edwards getting on?
Edwards has been absolutely brilliant in a limited amount of time - unfortunately he's got a hamstring injury and has been out for a few weeks, he is certainly someone we have missed. We have some real quality in the squad but not a great deal of depth in certain areas.

Why do you ask? Wasn't aware he had any connection to Everton.

Based on what I've seen of him, I'd want him on the wing. He's got the ability to go past his opposite number and his end product seems to be consistently good. I'd be worried about sacrificing that by trying him further back.

I also haven't seen enough of what he defends like. We conceded a goal against Bristol Rovers that he'd probably want back as he didn't cover himself in glory for it, but other than that he's just up and down the pitch a lot and his energy levels seem to tighten things up, because he constantly gets back to support his full back.

He might be really good at defending for all I know, but it's a bit different being asked to help your full back out at League 1 level to being tasked at keeping a Premier League winger under control for 90 minutes.

My main team West Brom, Edwards was at our Academy and played in our first team until we sold him in 2021. He from Dudley like my goodself. He always works hard behind the scenes within the local community at any club he plays at. X

Ah I see, well that makes perfect sense then.

Yes, he comes across really well. I think he's about 25 now and really needs to be playing football regularly. Based on what I've seen so far he is easily good enough and is probably Championship standard. Ipswich fans had good things to say about him but said the only reason he didn't play that much was because they had so many other good players.

I'm hoping he stays fit when he's back. Terrific player to watch.

Another assist for Neal Maupay after coming on in the 76th minute. Brentford beat Chelsea 2-0 away.

Mason Holgate back on the bench and not getting any minutes as Southampton beat Wayne Rooney's Birmingham 3-1 at home. Saints are 4th.

No minutes either for Lewis Warrington whose Plymouth lost 3-2 at Ipswich. Plymouth are 19th.

Stanley Mills came off the bench on 87 minutes with Oxford United losing 2-1 at home to Wycombe. Oxford equalised in stoppage time, 2-2. Oxford are 2nd.

Finally a win for Reece Welch's Forest Green v Crawley. He was taken off on 72 minutes with his side winning 2-1 which is how it finished. He had just been booked. Forest Green are 22nd.

Harry Tyrer not yet recovered from his back injury so missed Chesterfield's 3-1 win at Kidderminster. They stay top.

A 2-0 defeat for Zan-Luk Leban's Farsley away at Alfreton. Farsley are 19th.
Anyone know if thats an injury or tactical, would be an odd one pulling the centre back off while 2-1 up

Can't find much information but possibly it was to avoid a second yellow as he had just been booked. We will see at the weekend in the Cup.

Also, I see Chesterfield v Portsmouth will be on ITV on Sunday at 12.15. Hopefully Harry Tyrer has recovered from his back problem.

A first goal for more than a year for Neal Maupay and 90 minutes in Brentford's 3-2 win against West Ham.

Mason Holgate didn't get off the bench as Southampton won 1-0 at Millwall. Soton are 4th.

Lewis Warrington not even on the bench for Plymouth's 3-3 draw at home to Boro. Plymouth are 19th.

Stanley Mills started and got an assist in Oxford's FA Cup win against Maidenhead. He went off after 61 minutes with the score 1-0. It finished 2-0.

A 1-1 Cup draw for Reece Welch's Forest Green away at Scarborough. Welch went off after 64 minutes with his side 1-0 down and chasing the game. Forest Green equalised in stoppage time.

Zan-Luk Leban's Farsley lost 2-1 at home to Darlington in the League and are 20th.

According to the Derbyshire Times, Harry Tyrer is fit again but may be rested in tomorrow's televised Cup tie with Pompey. They expect him to be back between the sticks for next week's league match.

Great result for Chesterfield, beating League One table toppers Portsmouth 1-0. Didn't see the game (I live in Barcelona) but according to the BBC, Harry Tyrer made a couple of superb saves. He's apparently 6 foot 4 now. A loan in the Championship next season and maybe he could be ready to give Pickford some competition.
