Players out on loan 2023/24

Warrington's loan been a disaster, Mills also in and out of the team.

We should only send young players out on loan with a deal that they must be playing, Warrington if stayed here and trained with us while playing for U21 was much better than his current loan
Warrington is 21 now and if he isn't good enough to even get off the bench at Plymouth then unfortunately he is very unlikely to make it at Everton and no course of action would've likely changed that. We'd probably be better recalling in January and trying to find him a permanent home in a lower division for a nominal fee with a sell on in case he does kick on.

Maupay was left on the bench today v the RS at the Pit. Brought on after 72 minutes to save the game with Brentford losing 2-0. Finished 3-0.

Gordon couldn't buy a game at PNE but went on to become regular within 1 season.
Sometime it’s the player is just at the wrong club / wrong manager for their style.
NB I’ve no idea if Warrington is any good or not!

We can't make that judgment yet, Branthwaite himself did not feature much in the first half of his loan spell. Let's see if he comes into contention sometime later in their season. I think Warrington is alright if he plays a deep role just rotating possession (based on preseason), maybe he is on the bench because they don't play as much possession football and so now he is a cup player.

Maybe you’re right but you have to make a judgment at some point, both for his good and ours.

He’s only a year younger than Garner or Onana, where is he now as a player compared to them a year ago? Because that’s the standard required for a PL player. If he is not close to that standard then rather than cling onto false hope it’s better for everyone if he goes and builds a permanent career at a as suitable level.

I agree that there needs to be cut-off dates for decisions to be made on young players, but not while the jury is still out. Garner and Onana arrived at the club with experience topping the championship and a season in French league. Even Chermiti came with half a season experience in the Portuguese league. They are close to complete players bought for a lot of money but can learn from experience, onwards and upwards.

Youngsters like Warrington, Onyango and Welch are academy products, and when that line is drawn we can safely say we should have a stage-wise screening process. U19 to screen out talent, put the shortlist through loans, and finally make a decision at 21-22. The question is who get the pro-contract in the first place, then consider Dobbin who had a full Championship season compared to ones made by Warrington in League Two. Now if Warrington does championship second half of the season, he'd be on even-steven with Garner (let's say). Then the question is about making a difference with the squad.

Our problem hitherto has been holding onto players too long, the baxters, garbutts, broadheads, and the like. I don't know if we have any such player on our rosters, but for the goalkeepers (Virginia-24(backup) and Crellin-23)

Many players have had bad loans e.g Gordon and Barkley.

Coleman didnt even become a player for us until around 24.

Doesnt look ideal though.
