Mason Holgate missing and not on the bench for Southampton who drew 1-1 at Norwich. Southampton 3rd.

Stanley Mills on the bench all game as Oxford United got a late 2-1 win at Charlton. Oxford are 5th.

Reece Welch not even on the bench again for Troy Deaney's Forest Green who drew 1-1 with Wimbledon. Forest Green remain bottom.

90 minutes for Harry Tyrer as Chesterfield beat Solihull 3-2. Chesterfield 7 points clear.

Feels like a sensible move. Forest Green may have been pretty horrific but Welch has at least played a fair bit.

Given how little Godfrey has played, perhaps we're considering letting Godfrey go and having Welch as the 4th choice. More likely though I think he's being brought back to bump up the 21s a bit under the guise of having some quiet time to cement any development made while out on loan. Especially with Astley surely due to leave the club in some fashion.

We've gone from Vaughan getting his own athletic puff piece to 3 of our loans having to be cancelled lol
Normally football clubs are pretty good at knowing what level someone is. People have always complained that we can't get loans right and don't develop people but the most likely explanation is we don't have young players good enough to be getting the moves people want to see or the chance to play here and thats what we're seeing with this batch.

….its like I always say on this site. Many posters think going on loan is some magical episode in players careers where they join another club, play regularly and come back to Everton and play in the first team. It’s rarely the case.

Jarrad Branthwaite doesn’t always happen eh.

….sadly not. I think with Everton, players who go on loan are surplus to requirements so their failure to impress is usually confirmation that they’re not going to come through with us.

It’s a bit different with the likes of Chelsea who historically had a rich pool of young talent (regularly winning FA Youth Cups) whose route to the first team is blocked by expensive recruits. Our successful loans (players who have a career with us after a loan) are often young players we’ve purchased, like Branthwaite, Coleman and Holgate.

From an Academy perspective, we can point to Gordon, Osman and Barkley, although those last two had major injuries at a significant stage of their development. I’m not anti-loans per se, I just think it’s a bad sign at Everton when an Academy youngster is sent out.

Well on the reverse to that bar rooney(generational talent) what academy players have been a success that haven't been on loan?
