Playing guitar

always wanted to learn but my hands don't feel big enough, stumpy fingers that don't spread far.

At the moment I'm trying to change between C and G. It's really easy if I use fingers 2,3,4 for G but impossible when using fingers 1,2,3. But I'll keep trying.
Use the finger shape @Old Blue 2 suggested above for G - that will make for a much easier switch to C. Failing that, depending on what you’re playing, if it’s just the bass strings you’re hitting for a ‘chugging’ effect, just use the bottom two finger positions and ‘drop’ down two strings. Very quick and easy, but like I say, not so much if you need the higher notes on the top strings.

Does anyone play guitar? I've just started learning. I'm trying to play the G chord and I can't understand how it's physically possible to get your fingers in that position. It's getting rar on my tits.
Persevere - there is no easy route, but practice, practice and more practice - unless you're one of those very lucky people who have a natural aptitude for the instrument.
Believe me - very soon muscle memory, hand speed and dexterity will improve and you'll crack it and before you know it you'll be chugging away to 5 fret stretching Andy Summmers 'Sus 2' chords
;)

I find G easy.

B on the other hand...

This is the B shape. In the pic, it is 5 frets further up - the shape is constant, the name of the chord changes (as you know) as you move up the fretboard.

So, on this E chord, I'm barreing the 7th fret with my first finger, and using my ring finger to fret the 9th fret across the second, third and fourth strings. And yes, I can bend my ring finger so that the top string sounds.

As the shape remains the same, but moves down the fretboard, fret by fret, the chord changes as follows: E - Eflat - D - Dflat - C - B. For those learning, always remember: alphabetic progression as you move the same shape up or down..

It's the barring with the fourth finger that does me in, especially when needing a quick transition. I think I panic and try to plant it down hard too quickly.

To explain 'MIJ lawsuit' to those who don't know.

Gibson went apesh1t in the 1980s when Tokai brought out their guitars which were a direct copy of the Gibson Les Paul. They initiated a lawsuit against Tokai. Those Tokai guitars made in that period were from then on called 'Tokai lawsuit' guitars. Quite collectable nowadays, but they are rarely seen on the market.

They did the same with the Vintage VSA535 - a little too close to the Gibson ES-335 apparently.

I've had a Vintage VSA535 for about 20-something years now and only saw the lawsuit story when I was trying to see if it was worth anything.
