Firstly, 13/14 was Martinez, not Moyes.
And since you made the thread, could you be bothered to include your own opinion? You're presenting stats with no interpretation.

If your point is that 'spending money = bad results' then that's nonsense. You only spend money when you're not happy with the squad. We've not had a sqad to be happy with for a long time. Suddenly stopping the spending isn't going to get us anywhere.
Yes, you are right. I got 13/14 season's manager wrong. Oh well. Hope you don't sack me, Sir!

Why do I need to provide interpretation? Am I getting paid for this or something?

Why does the tone of your post sound like you are telling me off?

How do you know I wasn't going to provide an interpretation later on, after a few posts?

I posted this to encourage debate, no more no less. It's interesting to me and took me 20 minutes to compile. I've also enjoyed most of the inciteful responses.

So please don't be grumpy Zezti (n)

PS I did offer my interpretation a few posts above your own.

Moyes was a much, much better manager than he generally gets credit for, both in picking a player to come in, and using and motivating the players at his disposal. Any excessive defensiveness came out of genuinely having to take a knife to a gunfight. Not saying he'd win the league even with a huge budget - maybe his niche is doing the maximum with a little - but undeniably a good manager.

He did a decent job for us.

I would argue that his excessive defensiveness came from his cowardice though. There is a reason he has never won anything.

You can normalise the values to make them comparable over time.

But the bigger problem is that transfer spend (+ wages) takes seasons to manifest. And even then, there are other variables you’d need to control for to make a reasonable comparison.

All that said, the conclusion is still clear: we’ve invested so badly since Moyes left.
Yup, I agree. It would be interesting to try and ascertain what the value of players from 2010 - 2015 would be in today's market.

...its about buying good footballers, and we’ve spent a lot of money on footballers who are not good footballers.
We have spent money on long term contract who are too old or just plain Crap the only decent player purchased we sold to PSG .... also our under 23s won 2 trophies yet are on loan oe sold..... when we have players in midfield who cant run......

Yes, u r so right. Gueye is sorely missed. We all see that now. Did you notice though because he represented such a large profit we were very happy to sell him.
