Are u also suggesting that potentially our Iranian savior in bankrupting us would escape untouched without losing a penny?

What if we god-forbid we went to war with Iran. Has anyone ever wondered where that would leave Mr. Moshiri in terms of his ownership of Everton? I mean look at the Chelsea owner. He isn't even allowed to live here, is he? I've probably got that wrong!

yes buddy i am suggesting this could well be the everton monorail project and all the angry guy fans are clapping like seals at the real enemy within.

Moyes has the advantage of being given time because the owners couldn’t afford to sack him.

If he had his 2nd season finish of 17th and 39 points in today’s climate he would have got the bullet and we wouldn’t have those stats.

Equally it is possible that the managers that proceeded him could have done as well or better if given the time to build their own squad.

Guardiola and Klopp are two of the longest serving managers in the PL now and they both took a couple of years to warm.
I see your point. However, are you assuming Martinez, Koeman, and Silva, if they'd been given Moyes's time would've eventually come good?

The transfer market and the league in general have changed completely since the start of the decade, so it’s hard to compare. The ‘big 4’ has become a ‘big 6’ and FFP has made it near impossible to rival those clubs, whilst the Sky money has made the rest of the league more competitive.

The main thing that stands out for me from that is at the end of this season, we’ll have finished each of the last 6 seasons with a different manager:

2015- Martinez
2016 - Unsworth/Royle
2017 - Koeman
2018 - Allardyce
2019 - Silva
2020 - Ancelotti

We’ve not finished successive seasons with the same manager since 2014 & 2015 under Martinez. And it’s not like there’s been a progressive change between managers. Moyes to Martinez was a complete contrast, as was Martinez to Koeman, Allardyce to Silva and then Silva to Ancelotti.

On top of that, our current first team is made up of a squad of players brought in by different managers to suit different styles:

Moyes - Baines, Coleman
Martinez - Holgate, Niasse
Koeman - Stekelenberg, Schneiderlin, Calvert-Lewin, Pickford, Keane, Sigurdsson, Martina,
Allardyce - Walcott, Tosun
Silva - Richarlison, Benard, Gomes, Mina, Digne, Lossl, Delph, Gbamin, Kean, Iwobi

Including caretakers, the majority of our first team have played under about 5 different managers, even the lads brought in this summer have played under 3.

We’ve been in transition for about 6 years, we need a settled period under a manager, who can bring in his own players to fit his own style. Until that happens, we’re going to struggle to compete with the top 6 on a consistent basis and struggle to challenge for silverware.

Can't compare mate - the game and market is completely different now.

Your seasons start just after we signed Fellaini for a massive, record-breaking 15m. Nowadays we're throwing 5m at players for the academy.
You can compare though to some degree. The market is very different as you say. It would be interesting to compare say how much a player like Arteta would go for now. Although Lukaku, Stones and Fellaini all commanded very large fees. I guess it all tied in with the beginning of the massive Sky injection of money.

Yup, I agree. It would be interesting to try and ascertain what the value of players from 2010 - 2015 would be in today's market.

A few ways to do it but one easy heuristic is to take them as a proportion of turnover. That suggests 2010 around 2 or 3 times lower than now. (Though more a rough measure of relative expense to us.)

If Moyes was sacked after year two (our worst points total ever), then people would be equally incredulous at the idea that he should have been given time.

We’ll never know.

After about 5 years he was already one of the longest serving managers with a distinct advantage over other clubs who were all constantly rebuilding.

You say you can compare and then contradict yourself?

Hard to argue with this. Will he get the money to do it though? I believe it will be a tale of yes and no! Ultimately this may cause him to leave. He'll never get the sack though cos he would be too expensive to pay off. Like you say even if he just settles us for the next manager to come in 4 years down the line it will be a significant achievement.
