I’m for him getting the job but if there was some avoidable business largesse associated with him at previous clubs, that is a concern.

Surely though he could be taken on with controls in place and the normal oversight applied?

Corporate governance is the responsibility of the board. We have an army of directors, CEO, and DOF.

It’s dire straits but Allardyce will be compromising too in negotiations. Things are bleak but not to the degree that we accept all of his demands without question.

This is the People's Club
What does that actually mean? Don't get me wrong, I know I've singled out just one part of your post and you mention ethics and morality, but it's a football club, and the main thing for me (seeing as we're not winning any trophies) is that we do not, under any circumstances, go down. So the people's club, what does it mean?

He didn't sign the cheques and he spent next to nowt anyway 0/10

He didn't splash out on buying players. Instead, he signed experienced players on big salaries that left his clubs with enormous financial commitments for years to come. He also comes with a vast support team to pay, and pay off when he goes.

Allardyce is available, and even willing, to come. He left Palace in the summer after serving five months of a two and a half year contract, saying that he wanted a break. He spoke with Palace about returning after de Boer was sacked, but decided he was not yet ready to return to management.

It appears that he received a handsome pay-off too, because Palace will get compensation of £2 million if he returns to management within the term of his original contract. So perhaps he is prepared to wait a little longer. Meanwhile, he seems free to accept high profile media work.

Exactly. He knows this as well, he's just trying to get something right for once.

I believe we would pay the £2m, apparently there is a £2.5m fee for Dyche as well. It’s fairly standard in football these days. The Allardyce one is to stop him quitting, then moving to a bigger club on more money and bypassing the release fee. I think we paid Southampton about £6m for Koeman

Bargain...

Painful as it is we need to be realistic and look at the options...namely where we are and what we need.

The MOSH - it is said - is outlining plans here there and everywhere - yet nobody is any the wiser.

So it may be a case of getting not what is expected but getting what's needed.

Crap as it is.

And if it happens we've gotta get behind it, it's that simple really.

That said - I can't quite believe we've gotten to this.

Perhaps the football and how it is played. There is nothing wrong with a bit of snide, which Allardyce has in abundance.

But in terms of the club and what it stands for, I hold Everton to a higher standard. This is the People's Club and there are virtues and ethical standards to uphold.

I would be ashamed if we, as a club, were involved with some of the shady business dealings Allardyce has been complicit in.
Statements like these can come back and bite is on the bum thoug! We would all eb creaming if tubs Usmanov joined us and i am fairly certain that ethically he makes fat Sam look like mother Theresa?

And we can't really complain about Big Sam's alleged shady business deals and not wanting him at Everton because you want to uphold the clubs virtues and ethics unless you complain that we have a convicted criminal and violent thug on the coaching staff.
