Poppy watch 2022

It's become over commercialised now but it shouldn't take away from the essence of what the poppy signifies.

I'm not bothered if people don't wear them but I am bothered if people are harassed for either choosing to wear one or not. Wars were fought for freedoms of choice.

At the end of the day it's a little bit of coloured paper and plastic, it can mean whatever you want it to mean. I wear one because it reminds me of the unimaginable sacrifice that people have gone before us have made.

And not willingly either, millions of innocent people sent to slaughter by the evil or greed or ineptitude of their leaders or just because it was the only option they had to preserve the lives of their family and culture.

I wear it and thank God I wasn't one of them and hope that people won't think that it can't happen again if we don't produce a better world.
It has never stopped happening somewhere in the world and often involving us.

Not looking great is it?

It's really not.

However I'm a child of the 80's. I can remember sitting in the cafe in Owen Owens must have been around 1986/7 when I was a nipper and my Mum and Uncle having desperate conversations about how awful everything was.

I remember not understanding and saying but everything is great? Looking back it obviously wasn't but they came through hard times and I hope we will too.

Once again there are crucial battles to be fought both home and abroad for freedom and for fairness and quality of life for all. Maybe they are battles that will never end, human nature. But right now feels like a significant moment in world history for how life will be for generations to come.

How it started

Are we not allowed to wear poppies now? Have the wokes cancelled them? Is it offensive to remember war heroes who died for their country?

It's a bore who spend the entirety of their lives being offended by everything. Wokeism and Cancel Culture have done far more harm than good.

Are you offended by 'wokeism'?

No, I just don't agree with it.

You agree with racism and social injustice?

Way to completely twist what I said. Bore off.

Being called a racist for saying I'm proud to wear a poppy and don't agree with wokeism is a perfect example of this pathetic cancel culture thrown upon on us. This thread has derailed enough so not commenting further. I just hope Sunday is observed respectfully.

How it finished
