Poppy watch 2022

I wear a poppy, my grandad was in WWII, my nan was in the WAF, I’ve done a few operational tours, and I’ve done a couple of visits to the memorial sites in France and Belgium. I choose to wear one just as a symbol to remember the sacrifices of so many people (on both sides) during wartime.

I’m not overly proud of it in that I’ll force it upon others, or think more or less of anyone that wears or doesn’t wear one; each to their own.

When my lad gets a bit older I’ll educate him on it all and if he chooses to wear one then sound, if not, it’s his choice.

I love listening to the stories of the old veterans that were there, some of my grandads were amazing, although I do laugh sometimes and think how much did he embellish some of the stories.

My Grandad lied about his age to join the Navy in WW2, his ship was sunk and was shipped up by the Nazi's and taken to Poland to be a Prisoner of War for 3 years.

It was only at his funeral I heard about the suffering he went through and the stories about surviving on rats.

Most laid back and relaxed man ever.
