Possible Director of Football

I really don't think the roles and responsibilities of a national team job can prepare you for being a DOF. You check up on your own pool, pick accordingly, train them for a bit, play them. Not a lot else into it. Absolutely no scouting required since he's only looking at one nation over a few leagues.

His time as a club manager was horrendously bad. Can't see sense in these shouts tbh.

I agree with that entirely, in fact as a rule being a national team manager is probably about as far away from being a DOF. However I do think Loew is a bit of an exception in how he rebuilt German football and the longevity of time he has been there. He hasn't just assessed his own pool and play them. He has looked to rebuild from grass roots up with a particular outlook of how they want to play.

There is a lot of revulsion to the idea of having a "philosophy" after the last manager. I would say poor manager hide behind the idea. However I don't think the concept of flawed. Under Martinez we had an approach that for me didn't work in England administered badly and also omitting some of the key principles (ie workrate off the ball). I think having a DOF who knows how to rebuild from within, from youth upwards and help to produce talent would be a good thing.

His club record is mixed and is why I don't see him as a manager. However it is hard to ignore his international record and the fact he's won a world cup. More importantly how he's gone about that is by making Germany go from being an also-ran to one of the most talented squads in the world. Our recruitment side is actually quite good and I think him feeding that knowledge in that he has while being supported in recruitment he would be a big success.

Perhaps. The larger point though is where has the link even come from? I don't think I've read anywhere that's had Loew suggest it's a role he finds interesting. Surely after the Germany job he'd want to carry on being a manager.

It's not come from anywhere mate, in fact I suspect it may have come from me throwing it out there so I can assure you it has zero credibility!! I saw his odds tumble and with the Arsenal connection I suspect he may have mixed in similar circles to Moshiri for some time. It was a bit of a wish for me. There is nothing to suggest he'd be interested in the role whatsoever.

I've been trying to find information regarding Overmars' work at Ajax as a DOF but can't find much.

Does anyone know how he's been performing/any opinions from Ajax or Dutch fans?

@Dutch Toffee

He isn't exactly reknowned for his success in the transfermarket when it comes to unearthing first team players. Does get a lot of criticism on that part.

Apparently has a good eye for bringing in youth players though.

See link below and scroll halfway down for his transfer record. Article is from last year mind you.

I'd rather we pass on this one. Too risky imo
