Haha.Anyway, whilst Monchi would be my first choice, Moyes wouldn't be a bad DOF if you could get past the ego.
So if Monchi is off do we think Overmars could be the next target?
The DoF role is far more than this when done properly. It seems to have a negative connotation around PL managers not able to work with one because they somehow have players forced on them. It doesn't , or shouldn't , work like this . If we can get a top DoF then it will be the final piece in the jigsaw for the structure of our club, putting everything in place from majority shareholder, DoF, Manager, coaches, Academy director , academy coaches etc. Very few managers create a legacy that extends once they've gone , DoF s have the opportunity to shape our structure for years to come .
How about we get in a guy that's actually been a DOF before or is one yeh? Shouts for Moyes, Loew etc. are horrendous we have no idea if they could even do the job properly.
If we look at the Emery to us rumours that were mostly created by Evertonians on forums and the lack of any real facts, we see that Monchi is the same, there is not much there in the Spanish press about him joining us at the moment, so I would discount Monchi completely.
Anyway, whilst Monchi would be my first choice, Moyes wouldn't be a bad DOF if you could get past the ego.
Exactly. Some of the names are ridiculous. It's a real job, not some trophy role for some manager or player that has previous success elsewhere. And we really should have learned over the years, just because you were once at Everton as a player should not mean a job for life. We need to move away from that mindset and I am sure we will.
You've made some really good posts on the benefit of a DOF. I do agree with the sentiment of concern of proposing a Joachim Loew. I think it's difficult because often the best DOF sit in the background and aren't very well known. Part of the role of scouting is being unknown and getting work done efficiently. The media coverage Monchi has got will make things more challenging for him as everyone knows he is looking to buy players who are worth more than they are priced at, so prices may go up.
In that context people are suggesting names that could be massively left field. I think with Loew (who I have advocated) I suppose the skills he has displayed I do think would fit us quite well. He has always played the long game in Germany. He has managed coaches below him with the national team and a huge amount of his job he has dedicated to youth development and creating a winning and clear ethos they play too. When I've heard him speak/be interviewed he always strikes me as a clear, logical and intelligent man. I think the attributes he has shown would be very welcome at our club.
There is a big question mark over transfers. It isn't just as simple as being a big name and impressing agents. You have to know how to co-ordinate and manage a series of scouts and agents. That's an area of weakness for Loew. I do think the good outweighs the bad though.
